The Revision Plan
 The physics units are units 10 to 13 or pgs. 124 – 175
The plan
1. Self review, making notes when needed, while I do attendance (9:30 – 9:45)
2. Powerpoint review (9:45 – 10:15)
3. Review questions + solutions (10:15 – 10:55)
4. Short break (10:55 – 11:00)
5. Kahoot! (11:00 – end of class)
Speed, Distance, Time
• Speed = Distance / Time

• Distance = Speed x Time

• Time = Distance / Speed

• Remember the units for each of these!

Sound!
• Vibrations  Sound

• Large vibrations (Larger Amplitude)  Louder Sound (Larger Volume)

• Faster vibrations (Higher Frequency)  Higher Pitch

Amplitude / Frequency
• Amplitude is the distance between the
middle point and the most extreme
point.
• Its units are DISTANCE (meters for
example)

• Frequency is the number of cycles per

second.
• Its units are HERTZ
Sound! Vibrations! Vacuum? No!
• Sound DOES NOT TRAVEL IN SPACE.
• There are no particles to vibrate!
Hearing Range
• Different animals /
people have different
hearing ranges. This
refers to the pitch that
one can hear.
• Example:
• Humans: normally 20Hz
to 20 000Hz
Light!
• Light travels in rays! These go in straight lines!

• Words to know:
• Transmitted
• Reflected
• Opaque
• Transparent
Law of Reflection
• The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection!!!!!!!!
Refraction
• Light bends when it enters a new material!
• From air into material? TOWARDS the normal
• From material into air? AWAY from the normal
Light is made up of ……. MORE LIGHT!
• White light is ALL THE COLOURS OF LIGHT PUT TOGETHER
• A prism can be used to show the spectrum of colours. This is called
dispersion.
Coloured light!
• Filters filter out specific colours of light!
• Everything with colour, reflects only that colour of light!

• Look at the pictures on pg. 158 – 159 in your text

Magnets!
• Magnetic force
• Magnetic field
• Magnetic poles
• Force of attraction / force of repulsion
Magnetic field lines
• ALWAYS start at the north pole and go to the south pole.
• ALWAYS have more lines where the magnetic field is STRONGER
Electromagnetcs
• They can be turned on and off!
• They are made of:
• A coil of wire with electric current
• Often, an iron core
How to make your electromagnet SUPER
strong?
• Increase the number of wire loops!
• Increase the current in the wire! (so the strength of the power source)
• Add an iron core!
