• The periodic or regular shedding of tissues and

blood from the inner lining of the uterus is called
the menstruation or period. It could be described
as the discharge of blood from the uterine wall.

• The diagram shows the days of the

months when menstrual cycle occurs.

• For girls, usually how many days does
menstruation last?

• Yes, it lasts 3 days or more.

• Now, why do you think the diagram shows 28

days, when menstruation usually takes 3-7 days?

• Now, I will give you a puzzle that shows the 4

phases of the menstrual cycle.

• You are going to rearrange the picture then you

are going to tell your classmate what you’ve
observe within each phase. You will only do the
activity for 5-7 min, finish or not finish you will
show your answer to your classmates

•The teacher will explain the process of menstruation

• Menstruation is a sign that a girl is capable of

producing offspring.
• The menstrual cycle is a series of changes during
which an egg matures, and the uterus is prepared
for possible pregnancy.

• Now, what system do you think influences the
menstrual cycle?
• How, do you think endocrine system influences
the menstrual cycle?
• The length of the menstrual cycle varies from
woman to woman but the average cycle is 28
days.
• There are 4 phases of menstrual cycle
• The menstrual cycle is influenced by
the endocrine system
• Through the complex interaction of the
hypothalamus, pituitary and gonads
(reproductive or sex organs,
specifically the ovaries and testes).

1. Menses Phase: This phase begins on the first

day of menstruation and typically lasts until the
5th day of the cycle. During the menstrual phase,
the uterus sheds soft tissue and blood vessels
from its inner lining.
• Menses phase is when the menstruation occurs

2. Follicular Phase: The follicular stage also begins

on the first day of menstruation but doesn’t end
until around day 13, or when ovulation starts.
During the follicular phase, the pituitary gland
releases a hormone that stimulates egg cells to
grow in the ovaries. In this phase, the uterus
lining begins to thicken.

3. Ovulation Phase: Around the 14th day of the

cycle, ovulation occurs. The pituitary gland
secretes the luteinizing hormone (LH) that causes
the release of the matured egg cell from the
ovary. The egg cell then travels to the fallopian
tube

4. Luteal Phase: The luteal phase begins around

day 15 and lasts until the end of the cycle. During
this phase, the egg cell stays in the fallopian tube
for 24 hours. If a sperm cell fails to impregnate
the egg during this time, the egg cell
disintegrates. When the hormone used to retain
the endometrium runs out, a new menstrual cycle
begins.

influenced by the endocrine system, it is affected
by different hormones.

• If we are going to recall, what hormone is • Estrogen and progesterone

secreted by the ovary?

different endocrine glands that affects the
menstrual cycle.

• What hormone stimulates follicular growth in the • Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH),
ovary? And what endocrine gland secrete this secreted by the pituitary gland
hormone?
