Hookes Law
The extension of a spring is
proportional to the force on
the spring.

As the force increases the

spring gets longer be an
equal amount each time

Weight Extension
Hooke's law analysis
Hooke's law analysis
As the downward force increases the extension of the spring increases
proportionally.

At a certain point the maximum extension of the spring will be reached and it will
stop extending. At this point the spring may become damaged and not return to its
original length.

Ohm’s law analysis
As the voltage increases the current also increases proportionally.

Voltage divided by current gives the same value each time. This is the
resistance of the load in the circuit.

This is true only if the circuit stays at a fixed temperature.

Ohm’s Law calculations

Voltage = Resistance X Current

V=R x I

What is the the voltage in a circuit that has a resistance of 4 ohms and a
current of 3 amps?
Ohm’s Law calculations

Voltage = Resistance X Current

V=R x I

What is the the current flowing in this circuit?
