Discussion

The scope of this study focuses on the bonafide residence of Mati City, Davao Oriental. This
qualitative study sought to examine the advantages and disadvantages of technology in terms of
transportation and the differences between the old and current transportation. This qualitative
research conducted a face-to-face interview to examine the common themes and validate the
researchers’ findings. These findings were reviewed and checked from the two questions shown
on this chapter. The responses of the participants were then discussed.

Research question no. 1: What are the three advantages and disadvantages of technology
in terms of transportation?

This question supposed to substantiate the advantages and disadvantages of technology in

the field of transportation. This is based on the teenagers’ perspective. Baima clearly stated that
it makes transportation easier and faster in many condition. Nicole also added that our vehicles
nowadays are fast and very convenient. Honey supported their claim that people can easily reach
their destination because of transportation. Moreover, the perception of adults is likely the same
on the teenagers. As what have Elly said, we can easily travel to other places because of
transportation. Rey also stated that with the help of transportation we can easily go to other
places especially to the city. Rendering to Maria Luz’s idea, she said that we can go wherever we
want to go by the help of transportation we have today. Abe also added to their idea that you can
easily go to other places because you have a motorcycle to ride on. Transportation also helps
people when it comes on livelihood. People can use transportation by means of selling anything
and it was highlighted by Elly. Rey emphasizes that transportation can be the source of income
by finding a passengers.

These responses mean that the advantage of transportation is that we can easily travel
from one place to another. Technology brought transportation on our lives so that we can have
easiest way of transporting. In fact, Victoria Transport Policy Institute (2019) stated that the time
we allotted for traveling will diminish because of the transportation we acquire today. The travel
time cost will be deducted because of the vehicle we used. Manglinong (2018) also added that a
significant part of the Philippines’ workforce is employed in the transportation sector.

The disadvantage of transportation is that people became very dependent on motorcycle

and it is clearly stated on Von’s claimed. Honey also added that people will be self-reliant on the
transportation. People also tend to forget the old way of transporting and it is specified by
Nicole. Adults’ ideas about the disadvantages have focused on the traffic. Maria Luz and Elly,
specified that people will have an uncomfortable travel because of heavy traffic especially in the
national road. In the article of Kopp (2016) she stated that technology invades almost every
aspect of our life now, from how we communicate, to how we relax, learn, and even receive the
news. Dr. Jean-Paul Rodrigue emphasizes that the urban productivity is highly dependent on
transportation to move labor, consumers and freight between multiple origins and destinations.
Strickland (2019) stated that as more cars enter a crowded road, drivers have to use their brakes
to avoid collisions that will result to traffic wave.

Research question no. 2: What are the differences between the old and current
technology based on transportation?

This question is intended to unveil the differences between the old and current
technology based on transportation. In addition, Yap stated that they transport their products by
means of “balsahan” by the use of horse and carabao. Antero also added when they were
harvesting coconuts they also used “balsahan” and animals such as horse and carabao. Moreover,
people in the past will walk just to arrive on their destination. Terisita and Yap highlighted that
people in their time will just walk in order for them to go to school. According to sahistory.org
(2011), the first form of transport on land was, of course, WALKING!

However, in the current era the transformation of the transportation has greatly
empowered the society. According to Antero and Terisita lots of various transportation arises on
this era. Big changes of technology especially in transportation have been felt in this generation.
As stated on the article of King (2014), the transportation systems around which the modern
world has been built are on the verge of a significant transformation.
