WORKSHEET 3

General Instructions: Read and analyze each item carefully. Answer the given
items by providing the necessary information asked for.

I - Answer briefly in not less than 5 sentences based on the Lecture: The Muscular
System. (10 points each)

1. What makes up the Muscular System?

The muscular system's main function is to give the body movement. The
nervous system gives the muscles the ability to move the body. Muscle
fibers are specialized cells that make up the muscular system. Its ability
to contract is their main characteristic. Movement is caused by muscles
that are connected to blood vessels, internal organs, or bones. Muscle
contraction is the primary cause of almost all bodily movement.

2. Discuss the properties of Muscular System.

There are 5 major properties of the Muscular System. These are excitable or
Irritable, Contractible, Extensible, Elasticity, and Adaptability. The capacity to
react and to stimuli is known as being excitable or irritable. After receiving
stimulation, contractibility follows, it is the ability to contract or to shorten the
muscles. Extensible is by the application of force the muscles will stretch
without any damage. Next is Elasticity, it is able to return to its original resting
shape and length after being extended or contracted. Lastly is adaptability, it
can be changed in response to how it is used. For example a muscle will

3. Explain the functions of Muscular System.

The muscular system is a system that is made up of skeletal muscles,
smooth muscles, and cardiac muscles. The skeleton muscles are
classified as voluntary, this is because we have to make a conscious effort or
decision to make them move. Smooth muscles are also considered
involuntary. These muscles are found in organs or organ systems such as
the digestive or respiratory system. Cardiac muscles are also considered
involuntary. it operates without any conscious control. These muscles form
the walls of the heart and contract to circulate the blood.
HEALTH AND FITNESS

Fitness involves activity of some sort that

stimulates various systems of the
body and maintains a certain condition
within the body. Health, on the other
hand,
involves every system of the body and is
only achieved through a lifestyle that
supports
health.

Physical activity or exercise can improve your

health and reduce the risk of developing
several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and
