“LABOR EDUCATION FOR GRADUATING STUDENTS”
(LEGS)

We, the graduating TVL track senior high school students, were invited to attend a webinar hosted by
Muntinlupa City's Public Employment Service Office (PESO). This webinar provided us with knowledge
and prepared us to enter the working world. The topic of this webinar is the many government
programs and social welfare services available to Filipinos. These are the Labor Standards, Social Security
System (SSS), PhilHealth, and Pag-ibig, which provide benefits and assistance to low-income individuals
and families through programs such as health care, food stamps, and unemployment compensation. .
The Webinar will help us to become familiar with DOLE’s services on employment facilitation, workers
protection and social security coverage for the employees. The said seminar Entitled “Labor Education
for Graduating Students” holds on M arch 10, 2022 1:00 Pm to 5:00 Pm. This seminar has so important
to us to gain some knowledge about our career choice in the future, the speakers of the said webinar
with the different topic are Ms. Jennifer Fortuno who discussed the Labor Standards, Ms. Abigail P.
Mallari she discussed about SSS Programs and Services, Mr. Alex Custodio he discussed about the
PHILHEALTH Program and Services and lastly Ms. Leonida S. Asuncion she discussed about PAG- IBIG The
first topic is about labor standards. Labor and employment rules are quite important. They provide a
framework for employers to build their recruitment and selection processes, as well as the way they run
their human resources departments in retaining and promoting employees. Ms. Jennifer discussed with
us how important it is to understand labor standards and how it can help us when we apply to
companies someday. She also discussed the minimum wage here in the Philippines and the normal
hours of work. And now for the second set of speakers. Ms. Abigail P. Mallari spoke on the SSS Programs
and Services, including how members can get benefits for maternity, sickness, disability, retirement,
funerals, and death. SSS members are also eligible for wage, housing, business, and educational loans.
SSS contributions are 11% of an employee's monthly salary, and she also talked to us about how to
receive an SSS number through an online application, which is crucial for our future security. Mr. Alex
Custodio is the next speaker, and he spoke about the PHILHEALTH Program and Services. According to
his presentation, PhilHealth subsidizes our hospital expenses based on the amount we have incurred.
Parts of a doctor's professional fees, laboratory testing, and other medical charges are usually covered
by the agency. And he stressed the word Safeguarded since PhilHealth ensures that every member of
the family is protected through its Comprehensive Benefits package, which includes both preventive and
curative services. Finally, Ms. Leonida S. Asuncion spoke about the PAG-IBIG FUND.

They then give us a post-evaluation to ensure that we completed the webinar and gained information.
After responding to their post-test evaluation and attending their webinar, we received an e-certificate
from them as a token of their thanks and attendance. Finally, we must place a high value on these four
programs and services since they are not just the simplest and safest approach to save money, invest,
and strengthen human resources. They are also a must-have not just for employees, but for all capable
individuals, and these programs will not only assist us monetarily, but will also aid our family members
who are in need and to have a great future.
