Grease Poster Analysis

 Romance, dancing, singing is what can immediately be seen from just looking at the

poster for the movie “Grease.” The movie Grease, from 1978, is about an exchange student who

moves to a new highschool, makes new friends, and falls in love with the cool guy, focusing on

the youthfulness and life of high school students during the 1950’s era. The movie poster

"Grease" conveys a romantic relationship strengthened by dance, friendship, youth and singing at

the height of the greaser movement using the appearance of the centered characters, sidebar

images, and the blue background.

First of all, Viewers can see how the title of the movie is outlined by a car which matches

with the era the movie is based on. The car is in this bright red color with silver shiny letters, it

immediately grabs the attention of the viewer due to its bold detailing. Viewers can also see from

the movie poster that there is this huge couple dressed in 1950's attire right in the center under

the car, showing how the couple has some type of connection with the car. They are both

dancing, dressed in matching all black outfits;their knees are touching each other, showing how

they most likely have a special romantic connection between them. The couple is looking right

into each other’s eyes, grabbing each other while dancing with passion. Touch is something

important and meaningful when it comes to romance,their has to be trust in order for their to be

touch.. With this being said, you are able to see that they are the main characters. They also come

out on the top again with their names in bright red by their sides. It makes you wonder, “Who are

they? Why are they bigger than the other pictures? Why are they looking at each other like

that?” To summarize, this poster catches your attention with the way the couple is represented,

making you want to learn more about the couple by how they are being represented. you to

know more about the couple by how they are shown.

 Additionally, you can see other pictures that show scenes that come out in the film on the

sides of the poster. Looking closely, we can see that pictures of the couple surrounded them on

their left and right.You can see young people dancing, spending time together, and being close to

each other. These people are the friends of each main character, for they each have their own

friend group. The viewer can see from one of the pictures in the side were the girl who is the

main character is smiling surrounded by a group of girls. They do the same thing with the guy

who is the main character surrounded by a group of guys. This shows how they are friends

because they look like they are happy with each other.Facial expressions tell a lot about a person,

and in these pictures, you can see how happy everyone looks. In other words, the are enjoying

their time together, while dancing and singing. This helps portray their youth and how they’re

living out their high school years. Their vibrant attire, like the way the girls have their hair in

bobs with the puffy dresses, the bright lipsticks, and the big glasses, matches the era in which the

1950’s needed to have the image of nice “girly girls,” who depended on their husbands and were

raised to fall in love and get married.What is interesting is that in one of the side images the girl

who is the main character is dressed appropriately in a girly manner, but in the center she’s in an

all black, rebellious and sexy outfit at that time. This grabs guys' attention and makes the guy fall

in love with her, just how it is shown in the center. The guys are wearing their leather jackets

dressed in all black,with their hair slicked back, and their jeans folded to their ankles. It gives

them a strong, manly, mischievous look just like the guys in the 1950’s.The viewer can

inference what the movie is about by all the different scenes shown.
 Moreover, the main characters are being highlighted by the baby blue, sky like

background making them look as if they are floating. The light blue background of this movie

poster helps bring out the two main characters, giving them a better spotlight. The car is also in

the same position. The car plays an important role in the movie because if you have seen it, the

car helps bring the couple together, the car is called “Grease Lightning.” There is this scene

where they have a race, and the guy realizes that he needs the girl in his life. At the end of the

movie, the couple go into the car, and they ride off into the sky. Also in one of the pictures from

the side, you can see the couple again. It shows how they are important because they have many

special moments based on these pictures, showing how they are truly important. The way that

they look at each other. The way they hold each other. Portraying their connection through dance

and singing.

In conclusion, the poster for the movie “Grease” does a good job of showing what the

movie is going to be about. It grabs peoples attention easily with all the vibrant colors,detailing,

etc. It also shows the youthfulness of teens living their highschool lives while also showing the

romantic relationship strengthened by dance, friendship, youth and singing at the height of the

Greaser Movement.
