Name of Entrepreneur: Maria Socorro Cancio Ramos

Business of the Entrepreneur: National Book Store

First Section: (Describe the early life of the entrepreneur in 5 sentences)

Maria Socorro Cancio Ramos was born in a poverty-stricken family on 23 September 1923 in Santa
Cruz, Laguna. As a child she helped at her parents' shop and her grandmother's market stall. After
graduating from Arellano High School, she worked as a shop girl in the Ramos Goodwill Book Store.
During the Japanese occupation, many of the American books were hidden and the couple mainly sold
office supplies, soap and flip flops. Needless to say, that Jose Ramos her husband was the right hand
of Socorro Ramos and the greatest support throughout the journey of taking the National Book Store
to its present day.

Socorro Ramos, barely 18, started working as a salesgirl at a Goodwill Bookstore branch owned by her
brother in Escolta, Manila. Because of her selling skills, Ramos was put in charge of the store. It was
only after marrying Jose Ramos that her dream of the setting up a bookstore finally materialized. The
couple started the first National Book Store as a stall shop in Escolta selling supplies, GI novels, and
textbooks. Unable to afford extra help, Ramos worked not only as manager but also as cashier,
purchaser, saleslady, janitor, and helper.

Mrs. Socorro Ramos is an amazing entrepreneur because even if she faces a lot of setbacks and
challenges because of many circumstances like the war but because of her perseverance, she was able
to address it and makes the business prosperous. She also shows the virtue of passion and
determination. She has a hundred percent trust and confidence that her business will be a success.
She shows love and passion to her business that she views it more than just a business but also the
source of her joy. The couple take the risk at a young age to build their own bookstore even though it
faces a lot of setbacks, they rebuild it again and again and eventually become a success.

Name of the Business: Bookstore Café Shop

1. Business Concept: (Describe your business and what is its competitive advantage 5 sentences)

My bookstore coffee shop is a place where you will be able to maximize your time, and read
the books you love in a very ideal and comfortable settings also who offer a high-quality
coffee product that will make you satisfied. The coffee shop itself as a traditional Filipino
themed coffee shop where its patrons can not only enjoy a cup of brewed and espresso-based
coffee but also spend their time in an ambient and comfortable environment. Comfortable
sofas and chairs, and quiet relaxing music will help the customers to relax from the daily
stresses. A second floor with a large study place, filled with a lot of books that will
differentiate the cafe from incumbent competitors. Compared to competitors, the coffee shop
does not only offer products that are delicious and affordable but also includes particularly
rich and indigestible food which can make the customers satisfied for how consumption they
made.

2. Vision:

We want to be the most loved and respected book café shop in the world, and we are tireless
in our pursuit to serve the highest quality coffee. To be recognized as the ultimate book café
shop experience worldwide. For us, that means a relentless commitment to excellence in all
that we do, and a commitment to continuous innovation, aiming to consistently create
moments of pleasure for our members. Also, to create a fun and enjoyable place and to
become the first and most popular choice for young people where they can enjoy their coffee
time while reading, chatting or playing games with friends.

My mission is to will provide a friendly, comfortable atmosphere where the customers can receive
quality foods, drinks, and service at a reasonable price.

My target customers will be everyone who enjoy drinking coffee but I will mainly target
people at the age of 15 and older, both female and male, and who are of the working class
and students. This age group includes people who will hang out with friends the most and
they like new styles and new things, as my business plan is to operate a coffee shop, I think it
will be more attractive to this age group. Additionally, this age group is one that has more
stresses in the society and these people receive stresses from their schools, from their jobs
and may also from their families. They always need a place to take a rest or talk with friends
to express their emotions, and an appropriate with an eased atmosphere to hang out is kind
of a very important thing in their lives. Therefore, this age group will be my main target
customers.

customers)

This shop is the best product/ services for my target customers because when you enter a
book café, you will be able to experience value-for-time amidst modern as well as
comfortable settings. As a customer you will also be able to browse through any of the several
hundred locals as well as foreign books, magazines and newspapers which will be available
there. You can also get to drink and savor freshly made organic tea and also the in house-
roasted coffee while you browse yourself in books from their vast store of shelves. Those of
you wish to do their reading online will be able to plug in and reap the benefits of the café’s
free Wi-Fi.

7. Product/Service Offering: (Describe the most unique or best feature of your product/service. 5
sentences)

Well, the genre of café based on the theme of books which will also provide you with an
ambience which is relaxed. My cafe will offer a variety of choices to the customers
cappuccinos, latte, espressos, smoothies, regular coffee, soft drinks, and tea of all sorts will be
available. Also, my cafe will serve a deli-style breakfast sandwiches with the freshest
ingredients such as muffins croissants, cinnamon rolls, coffee cake, and other tasty treats.
Providing them a place for people to sit and stay awhile creates a relaxed, welcoming
environment that makes customers want to return. We invest a quality coffee and food items
to ensure our café delivers a professional and consistent experience.
