OBJECTIVES:

The Purpose of this procedure is to provide safe working guideline during the duct sheet
welding, grinding, LPG heating, and cutting work. In this procedure we also try to prevent fall
of weld spatter from height. Work including height work and hot work (Welding, Grinding,
LPG heating & Gas Cutting)

SCOPE OF WORK:

 For safe hot work

 For safe height work

LIST OF MAJOR EQUIPMENT

Hot Work Equipment’s

1. Welding Machines-.
2. Grinding Machines.
3. LPG heating torch.
4. Gas cutting

Deck sheet hot work safe plan (welding, grinding, LPG heating & gas cutting)

During the deck sheet fit-up time welding and heating prosses on that fan bell should
arrange kept water in can (painting can use) and fire extinguisher near to the hot work place.
In ground level soft barricading, fire extinguish and water kept at near to the place also fire
watcher deputed in that place. Proper supervision on this work and proper communication
with fire watcher and welding gang. Overlap welding at deck sheet with 4mm thickness plate
it help to reduce the falling of weld spatter

I. OVERLAP PLATE WELDING AT DECK SHEET AREA

Overlap plate welding at deck sheet joint area, (photo attached for reference). In over
lapping welding time weld spatter not falling from height. The weld spatter rested on
deck sheet. In edge side (curved) of the fan bell area welding should be use fire
blanket and the fan blade should be moved (gape from the welding area). Fire
blanket put on the fan guard of fan bell

II. GRINDING WORK ON HUMPED DECK SHEET AREA

Grinding on the humped area of the deck sheet and heated or hammering on the
sheet for straighten then in that area overlap welding done on it.

III. LPG HEATING TORCH AT CROOKED DECK SHEET AREA

Heating LPG torch used for heat up to straighten the crooked deck sheet. Then it
straightens the deck sheet by hammering.

IV. GAS CUTTING AT 4 mm PLATE

Gas cutting done on the plate for the over lapping. The gas cutting done at the
ground area and plate shift to the fan bell deck sheet .

FOR SAFE HOT WORK

 Fire blanket should be use.

 Fire extinguisher and fire water should be kept nearby hot work
 On gas cutting time should be informed to fire watcher the gas cutting starts
the work.
 Proper supervision and fire watcher should engage in this work, fire watcher
should inform to other worker and barricade the area. also, proper
communication between working gang and supervisor.
 Welding bit rod should be remove after the work.
 Cutting wheel should be checked then use ,proper power cable should be
use don’t overlap with welding cable .grinding machine should be done
monthly inspection should be done .
 Electric supply should be taken through RCCB/ELCB.
 All m/c and panel board should be protected against rain
 Proper Earthling shall be provided to all electrical equipment
 Short welding cable should be use
 Proper welding earthling should be done
 Proper flash back arrester provides
 Apron should be use for the welder

FOR SAFE HEIGHT WORK

When working at end side Edge of fan bell worker should be use life line proper full body
harness should be use. Tools and tackles should be kept in safe place. In hummer tied up
with PP rope for safe handling.

PPE should be ensuring.

 Safety helmet
 Safety full body harness
 Safety goggle
 Safety hand gloves
 Leather gloves
 Apron
PROCEDURES AND CONTROLS

from height.
 Grinding welding should be in visual check, before the job
 Don’t use damaged welding cable
 Proper cable rooting should be done.
 Proper fire blanket / fire tray should be use provided to protect falling of hot spatters
at height or barricaded the area.
 welding machine should be double earthling
 Provided flash back arrester /NRV on cylinder and torch side & fire blanket.
 The combustible material shall be removed from site before starting the job.
 No welding cable shall pass over the combustible materials/cylinders.
 Provide fire extinguisher.
 Check the leakage of cylinder with soap solution.
 All m/c and panel board should be protected against rain.
