1. Scope :
This procedure applies to all painting work at ACC

2. List of major equipment:

i. Scaffolding
ii. D – Shackle (for material lifting purpose)
iii. Wire rope sling
iv. Paint can
v. PP Rope
vi. Painting brush
i) Guide rope

3. Procedure:

1. Cleaning of surface will be done with wire brush before applying the paint.

2. Painting materials will be shifted from store to site and put on at ground
level in safe place. Required quantity of paint drums will be shifted from store
to site. Pants brush may be used as per the requirement. Paints bucket will be
required. Paints bucket will be handled carefully at ground as well as higher
elevation.
3. Workmen will go up and reach at the location through column ladder and
reach the particular location having scaffolding pipes covering particular area.
Aluminium ladders, tested rope ladders along with self-control grab arrestors

will be facilitated at work station. Retractable fall arrestors as a secondary

protection will be ensured for support vertical columns.

4. Availability of life line will be ensured at the location. Retractable fall

arrestors will be used on removal of temporary fixtures during surface
preparation for painting.

5. Proper mixing of the paint will be done at ground and same will be lifted to
the location with the help of rope 25 /19mm with 2MTcapacity D-Shackle will
be used. Hot activity will not be allowed.

6. Paint drum of 20/25 litres will be lifted to the location of painting area with
the help of rope 25mm/20mm with D-shackle with proper locking System for
higher elevations.

7. Painting will be done by manually/spray painting machine as well suitable

position/ condition.

4. PAINTING AT STRUCTURE AT TOP POSITION

I. Independent scaffolding (images at last page no :7) should be used for the
painting.

a) All painter should be use retractable fall block arrester.

b) Retractable fall block arrester tagged with lifeline, only one retractable
fall block arrester tagged at a time in lifeline.
c) Painting can paint brush should be tag with PP rope.
d) Paint can only allow to carry 70% of paint in top.
e) All painter should be use hand gloves and mask in compulsory.
f) Only allowed 3 workers to work in an independent scaffolding.
g) Green tag scaffold, only allowed for work.
h) Safety net should be used in bottom of scaffolding structure.

5. PAINTING AT STRUCTURE IN GROUND AREA:

a) Hot work not allowed in top are when painting working time.
b) Proper stacking of painting
c) Use correct manual handling techniques
d) Area should be barricade, remove the barricade after paint is dry on material
e) Fire extinguisher must be available
f) Spillage occurs in working time area should isolated

6 . SAFETY MEASURES:

a. Specific safety measures:

a) paints will be stored separately away from the source of heat of barricading
b) smoking, gas cutting, welding will not be allowed in nearby
c) Only trained workers will be allowed to handle painting job
d) Proper supervision and co-ordination
e) Tag line persons should handle the load by maintaining safe distance from the
lifting area.
f) Work at height training will be imparted in class room and job tasks will be
conducted at site to briefs working crew regarding hazards involved in painting
activity.
g) The levelled ground where cranes shall be used.
h) Provide warning systems such as cautionary safety signage.
i) Permit should be available in job
j) Proper training should be done before the job
k) Job area should be Barricading
l) All persons should wear required PPEs.
m) Competent person should be engaged in the job
n) Good Housekeeping is a part of the safe erection safe work procedure to be
maintaining. Slipping, tripping and other hazards.

o) Pick and bundle and wooden boxes, wooden supports, scraps material and
plastic others combustible material will remove in case of fire incident collect
and send to scrap yard.
p) Proper safety net should be used
q) RFA (retractable fall block arrester) should be used.
r) Scaffolding and, PPE should be as per standard, scaffolding tag should be
used in every scaffold
s) Proper illumination should be done in all job area
