b. ANALYSIS : Determine which of the following relations are functions. State the domain and range of
each relation.

1. {(4,10), (2,8), (4,-7)} Not function because the domain has been repeated

2. {(1,4), (-7,3), (-1,2), (8,4)} Function

Domain: 1,-7,-1,8

Range:   4,3,2,4

3. {(6,-1), (-7,5), (8,-1), (-2,0)} Function

Domain: 6,-7,8,-2

Range: -1,5,-1,0

4. {0,0), (1,1), (2,2)}   Function

Domain: 0,1,2

Range: 0,1,2

5. {(6,9), (4,8), (4,-3)} Not Function because the domain has been repeated

c. ABSTRACTION

1. What is the difference between functions and relations?

-A function is a kind of relation. A relation uses two sets, the domain  and the range and
assigns to each element of the domain a number but the function assigns to every element
of the domain exactly one element from the range or which has no first coordinate that is
repeated like one to one and many to more.
2. What are the different ways of representing functions?

- there are 5 ways to represent function

1. Ordered Pair

2. Tambular Form

3. Set notation or Open sentence

4. Arrow Diagram or Mapping

5. Graphical Form
3. What is the importance of functions and relations in real-life situation?

- The importance of functions and relation in real- life is the way in which two or more concepts, objects
or people effect on relevance others

d. ASSESSMENT #1

Graph the relation represented by each of the following and tell whether the relation is a function or
not.

1. {(-3,3), (-2,2), (-1,1), (0,0), (1,1), (2,2), (3,3)}

2. {(0,4), (3,3), (4,2), (3,-5), (4,-4), (0,-6),}

3. {(0,1), (1,2), (2,4), (3,8), (4, 16)}

4. {4,8), (3,4), (1,1), (-1, 1), (-2,2)}

5. {(5,3), (5, -3), (0, 2), (0, -2), (3, 1), (3, -1), (4, 0)}
