History is the study of past.

An artefact is a man-made object, such as pieces of art or tools, that is of particular


cultural, historical or archaeological interest.

3) Who is an archaeologist?

An archaeologist is a scientist who studies human history by digging up human


remains and artifacts.

4) ‘Man’ were nomadic before they settled down.

5) What caused ‘Man’ to settle down?


Food cultivation or agriculture caused ‘Man' to settle down. Food cultivation, or
agriculture, is the beginning of all human progress. When men are hunters, they
cannot settle in one place. They must follow the animals for food. But once man
began to plant seeds, he had found he had wait on them to mature, and so he settled in
one place.

5) Why was the period in history called the Stone Age?

The period in history was called the Stone Age because during that period the early
humans used tools and weapons made out of stone.

6) Name the three Stone Age periods.

Three Stone Age periods are:

1)Paleolithic Period (Called the Old Stone Age)

2) Neolithic Period (Called the New Stone Age)

3) Mesolithic Period (Called the Middle Stone Age)

7) Name the three professions of the Amerindians.

Three professions of the Amerindians are:

1)Hunters (hunting for food e.g., animal meat) The Amerindians hunted using
weapons such as the bow and arrow or using snares and traps. They hunted deer,
ducks, rabbits and other animals.

2)farmers (agriculture) The Amerindians cultivated and developed many plants that
are very important in the world today. Some of them are white and sweet potatoes,
corn, beans, tobacco, chocolate, peanuts, cotton, rubber and gum. Plants were also
used for dyes, medicines, soap, clothes, shelters and baskets.

3) fishermen (fishing) In the coastal areas or near large lakes, tribes would specialize
in fishing. They often used spears or nets to catch fish.

8) Which did the Amerindians called their spiritual foods?

The Amerindian’s spiritual foods were corn, bean and squash.

9) What is subsistence agriculture?


Subsistence agriculture is the practice of growing crops and raising livestock
sufficient only for one's own use. But we can also say that Subsistence farming is a
form of production in which nearly all crops or livestock are raised to sustain the farm
family, and rarely producing surpluses to sell for cash or store for later use.
