Statement Of Purpose

“A LITTLE PROGRESS EACH DAY ADDS UP TO BIG RESULTS”

Name : Yakin Dipakbhai Patel

Passport No : T3098098
Course studied : Bachelor of Engineering, Computer Engineering
Course Applied : Master of Science - Computer Science
University : University of Windsor

Since childhood, I took a deep interest in things around me, such as Football, Motorcycle,
Television, Stars, and a lot more of things. But the one thing that has remained permanent since I
started to find interest in is my love for computers. They inspire me to not only learn more but to
improve them and contribute to their development. Currently the most promising field in computer
is Artificial intelligence (AI). AI can expand our technological development to help us achieve
unachievable. AI can even help in the field of Medical, for example an AI can assist surgeon during
dangerous surgery.

My family consist of my father, mother, two elder sisters and myself. As the youngest child, I was
always loved the most. My father who is a farmer by profession, grows banana and sugarcane
majorly and few times he tries different vegetables. He also owns 3 trucks that are employed in
nearby government sugar factory. My mother is a lovely and beautiful person, and is a housewife &
the support system for the family. Both of my sisters are happily married and living their life at
fullest. The eldest amongst us siblings in settled in Surat, India and my elder sister lives in Brampton,
Ontario with her family.

I have completed my secondary education with 07.4 CGPA from Shree Ram Krishna Harikrishna
Academy. Thereafter, I joined Higher secondary education in same academy with Mathematics,
Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science as majors. There I got more entangled with computers as
I learned C++ object-oriented programming language. I scored 78.4% in HSC in the year of 2016.To
pursue my thirst for knowledge, I joined Babaria Institute of Technology, BITS Edu Campus, a highly
reputed institute in the state of Gujarat. I completed my Bachelor of Engineering in Computer
Engineering in 2020. I achieved this degree with promising grades of 8.65/10.00 CGPA. During this
course of education, I was exposed to many different fields of computer. Such as operating system,
compiler design, information and network security, Data mining and business intelligence, Advance
mathematics, data structure, and many others, out of which Artificial Intelligence, Machine
Learning caught my eyes.

My interest in Artificial Intelligence grew more and more with my learning. I ended up choosing my
final year project along with my three other classmates, titled “Heart Condition Recognition” which
was aimed to ease the work of doctors using sub-field of Artificial Intelligence. This application uses
Machine Learning models to predict patients heart condition through numerical data obtained from
reports and image of Electrocardiogram. The application is built in Python and uses libraries such as
TensorFlow, Sklearn, Matplotlib and Keras.

During my undergraduate course, I took part in various activities. When I was in 2 nd year, I joined a
workshop on Internet of Things (IOT) which was held by IIT Bombay at SVNIT, Surat. Workshop was
divided in 2 days, day one was dedicated for teaching basics of IOT and on second day there was a
competition. Luckily my group won second prize and we were so happy to defeat students of other
colleges. During my last year I volunteered to manage an event named “CODE LESS”, ironically
event was contrasting with its name. Event consisted of 3 rounds, 1 st and 2nd rounds were knockout
rounds and last round was 2 hours coding challenge prepared by volunteers.
Currently I am working as a computer technician at “Umiya Computer Care”, my main job there is to
diagnose the pc/laptop to find the core problems and solve them. I handle the technical aspect of
hardware and software requirements as per clients computing and networking needs. Moreover, I
also sometimes take care of the basic day to day accounting of the firm. During this period, I came
across many kinds of problems that were not taught during my undergraduate course. With the
help of this experience, I was able to rigid my stand to study further and gain more knowledge.

Canada is one of the largest growing economies in the world emerging as an educational hub.
Degree and diploma from Canada are globally acceptable due to their advance, high quality, and
meticulous level of control over their education system. Canada has the most peaceful and stable
society. Canada is a multilinguistic and multicultural country, which makes it more acceptable to
other cultures and this makes survival easy, especially for a student like me who doesn’t want any
other hardships while studying. People here are more supportive and motivate others to move
ahead with confidence. The social environment of Canada helps students to boost their confidence
level and encourage them to grow academically. Both the Government and Universities provide
benefits especially for the students to pursue their studies successfully. The high academic standard
and quality education help the students to gain remarkable knowledge and come out of the
universities with flying colors.

Once it was decided that I want to pursue my masters in Canada I started looking for universities in
Canada. I also appeared for IELTS Academic and scored 7.5 band overall (Listening: 8.5, Reading:
8.0, Writing: 6.5, Speaking: 6.0). As I was looking for universities I came across University of
Windsor. I asked my college mentors to give their opinion on University of Windsor, all of them said
that it is best university for someone like you. Then I thoroughly researched about the university,
what caught my eyes was their student faculty relationship. The University of Windsor has attracted
many researchers and academic teachers through a combination of state-of-the-art research
facilities and proximity to industrial research centers. As the university is located at the bank of
Detroit river which separate USA and Canada, due to this university has access to great deal of
resources from both the countries.

University of Windsor offers two programs, Master of Applied Computing (MAC) and Master of
science, Computer Science (MSC CS). MAC is course-based program which provide wide exposer to
different fields of computer at higher level. Whereas MSC CS is thesis-based program that focuses
on core research taking by the students. As I wanted to gain more knowledge in field of AI, I applied
for MSC CS and luckily, I got the admission. This program will provide me with skills and knowledge
necessary to pursue doctoral studies or a professional career in the rapidly changing computing and
technology field and the research will help sharpen my analytical and practical application of know-
hows and help quench my thirst for learning and finding new ways of doing things using AI.

A graduate degree from the University of Windsor will provide me with great exposure and boost
to my career as it is regarded as a source for higher grade of knowledge and learning in my country.
Students from all over the world come here to expand their knowledge and personality, gain an
edge over others in this era of neck breaking competition and innovation in the technical field.
Moreover, this kind of ambience also provides exposure and work experience on the international
level. Due to these attributes, many globally acclaimed companies and industry leaders prefer
foreign graduates over local graduates. Upon receiving my degree, I plan to return to my country
and gain few years of experience in corporate world. There after I wish to start my own company
that provides software solution based on Artificial Intelligence. With the ever-growing demand for
tech solutions across the globe, I am certain for India to stay amongst the top leader in the Tech
world, especially given the Make in India campaign.

Coming to the financial bit, I have already paid my first-year tuition amounting to CAD 19,584 and
have also deposit CAD 10,000 in my GIC account as needed for supporting my living expenses. I feel
proud to inform you that I have been awarded the University of Windsor Master’s International
Entrance Scholarship (thesis/major paper stream) worth CAD 7,500. In addition to that, I have been
selected to receive the School of Computer Science Departmental Scholarship valued at CAD 3,000
conditional to me staying in good academic standing with overall GPA of 80% or higher; which I will
certainly give my best to attain. I have submitted all the documents required as per the CIC checklist
for your reference and perusal.

With help of the knowledge acquired form esteemed university, the experiential learning form the
Canadian work culture, and the personal and professional relations built with access to extensive
alumni network, I am certain I will be able to make the leap towards turning my vision to reality, and
contribute to tangible advancement in technology via AI, and the growth of nation and my fellow
countrymen. With that, I submit to you my application for studying in Canada with a positive
outlook. I thank you for your time and consideration towards my statement and hope you find
everything to your satisfaction and provide me the chance to cherish this once in a lifetime
opportunity.

Sincerely,

Yakin Dipakbhai Patel
