Re: Customer Traffic Analysis

First and foremost, I would like to thank RGV Food Bank for the opportunity to have me as a

consultant and giving me the chance to make a difference for the organization. I hope my

recommendations are of great help and they lead to the change you are looking for. I analyzed

the data provided to me from the last 10 weeks and I think we can make a few changes to

maximize the output we are trying to achieve.

Below are my recommendations:

I used the pivot tables and graphs to give a visual representation of the information and make it

easier to analyze. By looking at the charts, we can see how each line represents a different day of

the week. They go up and down based on the hour of day to represent how many customers visit

each food bank per day. The tables show us numerical values to see the average number of

customers per hour of day that visit the main branch and the additional branches.

Analysis 1: Daily and Hourly patterns for Main Branch

Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest days for the food bank. We see that Fridays has two big

spikes during the day. One they get around 11AM – 1PM and the other spike in visitors is around

4PM – Closing time. Saturdays see a lot of traffic even for a partial day. The start the day off at
opening with more customers than peak times Monday – Thursday. Then the last hour is usually

another surge of customers before they close.

Recommendation:

I would recommend having more people available all-day Friday and Saturday to keep up with

demand. Even through down times, getting ready for the next wave of customers is essential to
keep the lines going. This will maximize the output of food bank and minimize the wait time for

customers.

Analysis 2: Daily and Hourly patterns for Branch 1

This branch, along with the other two branches of the Food Bank, has fewer customers than the

main branch.

Recommendations:

I would recommend that the food bank the same thing as the Main branch. Have enough people

on Friday and Saturday to keep up with demand. There is no need to over staff either, the

available help I would send to the Main branch as they get more traffic from customers.

Analysis 3: Hour of the day

From this hourly analysis, we can see that the main branch of the food bank is usually twice as

busy as the other three branches. They do seem to follow the same trend throughout the

branches. They all go up and down at the same times.

Recommendation:

I would recommend that there be enough staff around 10AM – 2PM and then again, an hour

before closing. These seem to be the times that customers are more likely to show up and get

their products.

Self-Assessment:

In completing this assignment, I learned how to use Excel to create visual representations of the

information given. By creating these charts and graphs, we can analyze the data faster and

formulate data driven decisions.

We were able to recommend solutions for the RGV Food Bank to maximize their output per

location. This will lead to faster transactions and lower wait time for customers who can go on

their way.

Presenting this information to the RGV Food Bank will enable them to take action and make

changes as soon as possible to improve their process and enhance their facility. They can also

analyze the charts and graphs themselves to modify anything else in their findings.

This assignment helped me realize just how important it is to analyze data to make better

decisions. It will greatly benefit the RGV Food Bank to have taken the steps necessary to

increase their labor during peak times.

In conclusion, we can see that Data Driven Decision Making is essential to any organization to

keep on top of their performance and the quality of their organization.
