Scholarship 2016
1. DEADLINE for scholarship applications is Friday, January 22, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. Please submit application to
Marcus Silver, at Silverm@ecu.edu or in person to Campus Living: Jones Hall on College Hill.
2. Refer to application process below for a list of the supporting documents needed (i.e., reference forms,
evidence of GPA, etc.) Incomplete applications will not be considered.
3. If any question does not apply to you in this application please put N/A in the space.
4. Typed application is required.
5. Recipient will be notified the week of February 12, 2016.

PURPOSE The Residence Hall Association “Resident of the Year” Scholarship program was established in
2015. The mission of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to individuals living on campus inside
of one of fifteen residence halls. The “Resident of the Year” Scholarship principally targets residents on
campus who exude leadership, involvement in their hall, and outstanding community development.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
The Residence Hall Association awards scholarships on the basis of a comprehensive process. Areas that
are reviewed by the committee include, but are not limited to the following: Academic Accomplishments,
Community Service, References and Personal Essay. The recipient selected as the “Resident of the Year”
will receive a $500 scholarship.

CRITERIA
 GPA requirement 2.75 semester and cumulative
 To be in good standing with the conduct office
 Remain living on campus for 2016-2017. To be returning to campus in the next academic year in order
to accept the scholarship.

TIMELINE
 Applications are due January 22, 2016 by 5:00 p.m.
 Scholarship recipient will be notified the week of February 12, 2016.
 Recipient will be awarded scholarship, April 19, 2016 at the RHA Banquet.

APPLICATION PROCESS
NEW SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS MUST PROVIDE:
 Applicants must complete and submit a Scholarship Application by Friday, January 22, 2016 by 5:00 p.m to
Marcus Silver, Silverm@ecu.edu or in person to Campus Living: Jones Hall on College Hill.
 Letter of recommendation (ECU faculty or staff)

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
 Award amount $500.00
 Scholarships may not be processed before billing is complete. If that is the case, the student would have to
ensure their tuition is paid in full. Then once the scholarship post, it would be refunded to the student as long
as they do not owe the university any money.

CRITERIA FOR SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS


 Remain living on campus for 2016-2017. To be returning to campus in the next academic year in order to
accept the scholarship.
 Attend RHA End of Year Banquet April 19, 2016

Deadline for the application is Friday, January 22, 2016 by 5:00 p.m. Applications postmarked after this date will
not be considered.
