2001 MAXIMA; LOW/NO IDLE AFTER COLD START
APPLIED VEHICLE(S): 2001 Maxima (A33)

SERVICE INFORMATION
If a 2001 Maxima has the following symptoms:
• The engine idle drops excessively or stops when engine is started cold;
• This incident is not A/T related, and may be occurring within the first 10 seconds after
the engine is started cold; and
• Once the engine warms, the incident no longer occurs;
Install an updated ECM program available to address the incident should it occur. Use the
Service Procedure outlined below to correct this condition.
For an introduction and description of ECM Reprogramming, please refer to NTB00-006.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Download the ECM Reprogramming data from ASIST to CONSULT-II and install the
ECM Reprogramming data into the vehicle ECM.
CAUTION: The ECM can be permanently damaged if the reprogramming
procedure is not performed correctly.
The detailed instructions for this part of the procedure can be found by clicking here or
referring to Attachment "A" to the printed version of this bulletin.
A. In ASIST go into Info Tool Box, then CONSULT Utilities, then ECM Data.
B. Select model/model year for the applied vehicle.
C. Select the applicable vehicle configuration for your vehicle from that listed in the
upper right ECM data description window.
D. Click "Continue" button to download the new data from ASIST into CONSULT-II.
E. Perform download from CONSULT-II to the vehicle's ECM.
F. Using CONSULT-II access and print the new ECM P/N.
