Q2W1 Assessment Activity 1:

Problem-oriented Experience
SOLVE IT WITH GRESA

Solve the following problem scientifically (GRESA). Round off your final
answer to the nearest tenths, box/highlight your final answer and proof your
answer in 2-3 sentences.

1) What is the moment of inertia of a 2-kg long Barangay

Kagawad’s baton (batuta) with a length of 2 m? The axis
of rotation is located at the center of the baton.

G - M = 2 kg L = 2m
R-I=?
E-I=MxL
S - I = (1/3) ML^2
I = (1/3)(2kg)(2m)^2
I = (1/3)(2kg)(4m^2)
I = (1/3)(8kgm^2)
I = 8/3 kg m^2

2) An ant is found at the edge of a rotating circular disc. The angular velocity
changes at the rate of 60 rad/s for 10 seconds. Calculate its angular
acceleration during this time.
= dw = 6 rad/s dt = 10 sec

Using the formula of angular velocity acceleration and substituting the values

a = dw/dt = 30/5 = 6 rad/s^2

3) The width of a door is 40 cm. Suppose it is released by exerting a force of 2 N
at its edge (away from the hinges). Compute the torque produced which
causes the door to open.
G - d = 40 cm = 0.40m
R-T=?
E - T = F d sin 90*
S - (40cm)(20)
(0.40)(20)
= 8Nm
A = T = 0.40 × 20 = 8Nm

Force applied F = 2 N

The distance between the force's line of action and its axis of rotation, or the
distance from the hinge, is

T = 0.40 × 20 = 8Nm
