A. Family structure, characteristics, and dynamics

Family A is a nuclear type of family composed of Mr. and Mrs. A and their 6 children residing in the urban area of Barangay Poblacion 4, Maharlika Street,
Cotabato City. The family lives in one roof except for their first-born that lives in Manila. In terms of decision making about their health, Mrs. A is the one who decides. Mrs.
Muslima also mentioned that they are close to each other and their son and daughter quarrels sometimes just like other siblings but they do resolved it immediately.

B. Socio-economic and Cultural Characeristics


The family relies on the income of their father, Mr. A and and is supported by their children who have jobs . Mainly, their occupation is not far off from each other as Mr.
A and their fourth child works in the city hall in the administrative sector as contractual . Their first child is working as a driver in manila and both their second and third
child works as a contractual as well. Mrs. A handles the income of the family and stated that their combined income reaches amount 15, 000 pesos per month. Which is
just enough for them to eat three times a day and buy necessities. Four members of the family finished high school, two are still in college and one is a graduate of
community development. The religion of the family is Islam and they are proud Maguindanaon. They also has good relationship with the community and actively
participates in barangay activities.

C. Home Environment

The family owns the house they are currently living, the house is a two-storey house which is just enough for them, it has 4 rooms in the second floor and a
living room and kitchen in the first floor. Their house is composed of wood as the primary material and mixed with galvanized steel (yero). The family sleeps in pair in
their respective rooms. They cook using charcoal and store it in a container. They own their own line of water used for bathing, cooking, washing of clothes and
drinking. They also has 1 bathroom flushed through “buhos” using a bucket which then are directed to their two septic tanks. In terms of garbage disposal, they do
not segregate and they throw their trash outside of their house but is then collected every Monday by the city waste collectors. They don’t have problems with
mosquitoes inside their house however, every night they struggle due to the rodents presents and roaming. They attend to it by frequent cleaning but maybe due to
the area it never goes away. Since their house is located in a congested are, it is easy for them to interact with their neighbors. They mainly commute for transportation,
but they use the motorcycle of their father, Mr. A. They use cellphones for communication. Facilities such as Barangay Hall, Barangay health centers, and Day care centers are
easily accessible. There are near recreational places in their house such as basketball court but they choose not to go due to their personal reasons.

D. Health Status of each family member

Everybody seems to be fit however, Mr. A, their second and their young children’s were hospitalized last 2017. Mr. A was diagnosed with hypertension was
hospitalized for 3 days. The family has a history of hypertension which can be a potential health threat. Their second child on the other hand, was hospitalized for 6
days and was diagnosed with pneumonia later gained symptom of pleural effusion when was about to remove the fluid he then signed HAMA due to personal and
financial reasons. Their youngest got Amebiasis and was hospitalized for days, and ever since then he has not yet recovered from the disease. Other family members did
not have any disease/ illness that cause them to be hospitalize. In terms of health management, when a member is sick they tend to rely on paracetamol use and
traditional hilot as alternative when medication does not affect the said symptoms but if the symptoms still persist, they then go to the hospital. They are able to eat three
times a day. Their normal diet comprises of fish , vegetables, and meat. The mother usually prepares fair meal, but sometimes they, just buy available meals outside. They often
drink 8 glasses of water a day to prevent and dehydration. The family also exercises.

E. Values, Habits, Practices on Health Promotion, Maintenance and Disease Prevention

The family has a strict rule when it comes to sleeping, all of them go to sleep at 10 pm and then wakes up at 6 am in the morning. They then proceed to prepare fair
breakfast and warm- up their bodies a little bit through exercising. Then after they shower and proceed with their day. In terms of their immunization, all of them have their
second dose of vaccination already but when asked about their booster dose, they said they don’t want to be injected anymore. They have a combined belief of traditional and
scientific medicine since they employ “hilot” as a (diko klaro) relieving pain and medication to (diko talaga maklaro) . They often participate in the barangay’s health program
(diko klaro) , as they sincerely believe that participating can benefit them, then whenever there is a chance, they always join. The family has enthusiastic approach when it comes
to free services in the Barangay.
