The Alternative Life.

The image ¨Social Distancing circles the world¨(fig.1) provides people sitting inside

circles spaced out. The author Johannes Eisele wants the audience to be everyone who was

affected by COVID-19. The image gives the interpretation of the daily lives after COVID struck

and affected everyone. The genre of this text is to be informative about how people were during

social distancing times. In this text the circle creates an illusion of being the distance between the

person or people. The text also provides distances and items within the circles to demonstrate

how most people were during quarantine. The image is about how people used to be during

COVID-19 quarantine.

Firstly, the most impactful visual element of the text is how everyone is in their circles

not crossing over someone else or over theirs, and with some belongings inside. Everyone seems

to enjoy their space in the circle. The objects with them inside to circle are most likely to be

occupied or something they love to do on a daily basis. In the image someone is seen with their

dog and another person has their bike inside their circle. This shows how even though people

were isolated, because of covid people still kept doing what they love. In the text the various

people are shown calmly and relaxing with their belongings. Throughout quarantine people

didn’t stop doing what they loved, and continued living as though nothing was happening.

Secondly, in the text the circles and persons can be seen spaced out symmetrically

through the grass. The distance is seen the same for every circle making it attract the readers

towards the circle and how they are evenly spaced out. During COVID-19 six feet apart of

distance was the health guideline, so most people would stay six feet or even a little more apart.

The text illustrates the people lined up in order as though they were in stadium seats evenly

spread out. The symmetry in the spaces provides an illusion of greater distance and also provides

the people to be seen organized. The text includes this in order to show how everyone kept

distance during quarantine and were fine with it. People got accustomed to the six feet apart and

were not affected by it.

Thirdly, the text shows people being outside on a big lawn in their space provided. The

objects are distanced evenly throughout the lawn outside in fresh air providing space for many

circles. This huge lawn also allows for the distance between the subjects to be large. This large

lawn helps them have an efficient amount of space to the point where multiple people and

objects can fit in. The text seems to provide a wide distance of space so people can still follow

the safety guideline, but also have their fair amount of space to where they don't feel suffocated

with little space. As quarantine was announced most people didn’t go outside much, so the image

was provided outside in order to have a break from living locked up in quarantine.

Furthermore, in the text the author provides the image and subjects in distance, so the

audience can feel a related feeling to the subject. As pretty much the whole world in 2020

experienced quarantine in solitary from many acquaintances and loved ones. The image provides

the feeling of distance and unity at the same time. Distance due to the pandemic and for safety,

and unity to show how everyone was going through it together. It gives a feeling of nostalgia and

comfort. Nostalgia due to the events being in recent years and just recently getting back to how

the world used to be. The feeling of comfort comes due to knowing that even though everyone

was going through and that we still had each other even though the distance. The text has

distance to demonstrate how people had to live and adapt to the distance due to COVID-19 and

quarantine.

Additionally, the text provides the color green and white as the main colors. The contrast

between the color green and white catches your attention by even glancing at it. The text

provided the color green of nature in order to attract attention, since through quarantine many

weren't able to enjoy nature as they used to. The white is provided in order for the circles to

contrast the color and standout. With the color white the circles stand out making this catch the

reader's attention and seeing that each person or group of people have their own space provided.

The colors are provided to show a different scenery to the people who were most likely

quarantined in their homes all day.

Moreover, the people are all interacting within their circles and seem to have a relaxed

and happy expression. For example, we can see two girls laying and talking with each other. In

another circle we can see many couples talking with each other as if there isn't a worry in the

world. There are also people by themselves in their own circle who seem to be at ease. Some are

in the company of friends and their pets. Everyone seems to be entertained in their own circle by

something or someone they are with. This shows how once quarantine came nobody was in

nobody's space due to only being at home and keeping themselves safe and healthy.

In conclusion, the text provides people with social distance during COVID-19. The text

was shown in order to give an idea of how people were during quarantine. People got

accustomed to living throughout this situation and have been keeping up with some of their daily

activities. This image provides information over how people social distance during COVID-19,

and how they lived and managed to still find a way to be able to overcome the isolation they

were facing.
