Lent - Lent is a time that offers us an opportunity to come to terms with the
human condition we may spend the rest of the year running from and it brings our need
for a Savior to the forefront. Lent is an intensely penitential time as we examine our
sinful natures and return to the God we have, through our own rebelliousness, hurt time
and again. Lent is also an opportunity to contemplate what our Lord really did for us on
the Cross. But ultimately, the purpose of Lent does not stop at sadness and despair - it
points us to the hope of the Resurrection and the day when every tear will be dried
(Rev. 21:3).

14 Stations of the Cross

1. Jesus is Condemned to Death - You’re supposed to be highly aware of Jesus’
suffering and that his suffering was for you. Carry your own cross, bear your own
burden, etc.
2. Jesus is Given His Cross – Jesus, as you accepted your cross, you knew you
would carry it to your death on Calvary. You knew it wouldn't be easy, but you
accepted it and carried it just the same.
3. Jesus falls down for the First Time - We reflect: it’s easy to give up when we
stumble upon obstacles. It’s easy to drop the cross and say, “Someone else pick
it up. I’m done.” Once again, though, this isn’t the Christly way.
4. Jesus Meets His Mother Mary - When the crowd seems suffocating, look for the
face you know, look for someone who can help you and love you—friends and
family, mentors and guides.
5. Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to Carry His Cross - As you grow weaker, they
grab a man out of the crowd and make him help carry your cross. He was just
watching what was happening, but all of a sudden he is helping you carry your
cross.
6. Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus - You can see how she cares for you as she
takes a cloth and begins to wipe the blood and sweat from your face. She can't
do much, but she offers what little help she can.
7. Jesus falls down the Second Time - Jesus tells us, “Don’t despair over little
obstacles or mistakes. Keep going.
8. Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem - Although you have been abandoned
by your friends and are in pain, you stop and try to help them .
9. Jesus falls down the Third Time - We encounter the same problems over and
over in our lives, and we’ll continue to face them, and we can only keep
going. It’s our only option.
10. Jesus is Stripped of His Clothing - They tease Him and challenge Him to
perform a miracle for them to see. They're not aware that He will perform the
greatest miracle of all!
11. Jesus is nailed to the Cross - We’re brothers and sisters on this earth—we’re
supposed to treat each other well. Not nail people to crosses.
12. Jesus Dies on the Cross - Jesus wanted all of us to be able to live forever with
God, so he gave all he had for us.
13. The Body is removed from the Cross - Your suffering and pain are ended, and
you are put in the lap of your mother. The dirt and blood are wiped away. You are
treated with love.
14. Jesus is placed in the Tomb - Joseph of Arimathea, who risked his own life as
he accepted Jesus' body for burial. Joseph loved Jesus so much that he gave
him his own tomb.
