Compose an essay on the experiences that you had in your social studies
class during your elementary and high school days.
During my time in high school I had it really good moments, but my best
moments that I’ve experienced are in a particular class during my Social
Studies(ECONOMICS) subject, it is beacause our teacher in this
subject(ECONOMICS) when I was in 4th year highschool in Manila is so strict
because he will throw away our notebook if he is not satisfied with our
answers. And as far as I can remember the content of our lesson in Economics is
current events it is about the understanding of the importance of people,
events, and issues in the news. It also refers to events in the recent past,
the effects of which have an immediate impact on and relevance for the
present. That’s why social studies is important in curriculum because it is
best to get us as a students to explore the world using our skills that we
learn and strengthen our understanding of daily life that is sometimes hidden
from us and exposed to us suddenly once we turn into adults.

Teaching Social Studies in Elementary Grades
Experience
Using the Araling Panlipunan Curriculum Guide, explain how the following
themes/topics are articulated from Grade 1 to Grade 10.
Citizenship
Consumption
Nationalism
Rights and responsibilities
Diversity
Kids in the first grade are usually six- or seven-years-old.As
early as Grade 1, they are learning to read and understand new concepts in
mathematics, science, english and values at the most basic of levels. It is also
the time to begin teaching them how to be a valuable member of
society.Learners in first graders learn about the responsibilities of
Citizenship by incorporating them in daily classroom activities where learners
have to exposed and show their identity and personal characteristics to their
fellow human beings by showing their traits as a good citizen: respect,
courage, responsibility, compassion and honesty. And in this themes children
learn the important information regarding their local, state, and national
government and culture.By putting together all this knowledge, skills, and
values necessary to form the foundation to be a good citizen, by this topic
educators can ensure that learners are in the very best position possible to
become contributing members to society as adults.
As they advance in Grade 2,they already know their rights and
responsibilities not just in their home but also inside of the school
community.Political science comes in as learners study their rights and
responsibilities and they role.Where they will learn to be responsible for all
their actions,by obeying the rules inside the classroom . And by this
themes/topic educators need class needs rules and share with them that all
citizens of the classroom community need to be honest, show respect and take
responsibility for their actions. Let the kids know there will be consequences
when the rules are broken.
In Grade 3 and 4,Diversity in and out of the classroom will
continue to grow, so it’s essential we prepare students to adapt to an
evolving world and embrace those different from themselves by highlightning
its local history, and culture.By preparing the learners to be global citizens
by exposing them to people from different cultures and social groups, gender,
socioeconomic status, religion, and family structures. We can teach children to
respect and value people regardless of the color of their skin, their physical
abilities, or the language they speak. And also in Grade 3 and 4,their studies
of consumption were significantly related to economics status. The primary goal
is helping students show their behaviors and actions on how to save.Learners
need to have money of their own so they can learn how to make decisions about
using it on how to spend it.Where they can also tell their parents that
instead of money they will only bread and juice.
As learners enters Grade 5 and 6,Nationalism where Philippine
history will comprehensively examined.Teaching nationalism in schools
will help students build up a sense of identity. It will help them feel like
they belong in their country. The students get the chance to understand that
they have a purpose in society. It helps builds the students' character
development.
In this study,as a learners from Grades 1-6 it gives the students
the opportunity to develop skills for dealing with today's information
especially in a rapidly changing world. The purpose of this study was to
explore the effectiveness of an integrated curriculum,it shows here that an
integrated curriculum gave students a better understanding of the relationship
between subjects.

curriculum by accomplishing the thinking Venn below.
Challenge
Answer the following questions.Substantiate your point by providing
relevant facts/data.
1. Enumerate and explain the importance of an integrated curriculum.
Integrated curriculum is a study in which children broadly
explore knowledge in various subject related to certain
aspects of their environment. It says here that children can
easily learn and have a wide range of knowledge due to the
various disciplines covered in this curriculum.
It allows students to move across disciplines as they learn
about their world. It says here that every students have to
focuse on making connections and allowing them to engage in
relevant, meaningful activities that can be connected to
real life.Understand how to apply what they’re learning to
real-world scenarios better
It presents rich opportunities for learners to become
socially aware and engaged. It says here that learners have
to develop different or multiple perspectives, points of
views, and values to become a contributing member of
society.

HARNESS
Interview elementary social studies teachers regarding the challenges they
are encountering in implementing the standards as prescribed in the
curriculum. Use the guide questions provided.
Guide Question:
Are the standards(performance,content,and learning
competencies)clearly articulated?If not,can you please elaborate
your response?
Curriculum contains all the activities in the teaching
learning process. This is the standard or basis for all
the teachings learning activities.Since this is the
standard and guide, all the competencies to be developed,
the content to be taken up and the performances to be
performed or accomplished are clearly articulated and
laid up to the smallest details for smooth teaching-
learning process and goals to be achievable.
Are the prescribed standards achievable? Why or why not?
For as long as the teacher is well-versed on the topic
and subject matter and has mastery of the subject
matter,this is achievable,because every
competency, activity and content are simplified to the
smallest details that every learner may grasp.
Can you suggest way on how to improve the said standards?
With the advent of so many Social Media flat
forms, standards should be revised more often to cope up
with the rapid changes of time caused by the modern
information technology.
allign instructions to learning standards - it should
always be clearly aligned to the learning target and task
for mastering a learning standard.
Include formative assessment - this helps to show where
students need improvement.Students become more motivated
about learning and confident in their abilities.
Use the feedback loop concept - Students’movement from
one learning target to another works best when students
receive feedback to help them improve. Students rely on
feedback and, without it, their chance for remaining
engaged learners spirals downward.

Challenge
Answer the following questions.Substantiate your point by providing
relevant facts/data.
1. Enumerate and explain the basic tenets of constructivism as an educational
philosophy.
In the first tenets of constructivism ,a child's knowledge not only
depends on what they have learned from his teacher, but they also must
gain a broader knowledges of interacting with other people.
In the second tenets of constructivism, the children are able to take
in new information, form new ideas or change existing ones, and adopt
new behaviors that make them better prepared to deal with the world
around them.
The third tenets of constructivism, this is when the learner may
process new information and gain new knowledge. When they stored
information from the past meets new information, their brain’s ability
to store knowledge is boosted.
The last basic tenets of constructivism, that their learnings begin
within their home with their parents and those around their community
in which they grew up.
2. What are the implications of constructivism to social studies class?

Implement constructivist learning principles.Clarify the enabling and
hindering factors in the realization of constructivism as a learning
philosophy.
Enabling Factors Hindering Factors
My analysis here is that social constructivism is involve in these key stage
standards as an educational philosophy, its because it covers community events
to which young students belong. And also I believe that knowledge is actively
constructed by the individual through their interactions with each other and
their environment, and that learning is not passively receiving information
but the result of people actively constructing knowledge. That in these cases
most children are already aware of what is happening around them because of
social media and also because of what they see on television, internet and
other technology related. That for today's youth they can easily learn because
of modern technology.Where their learning is by engaging in real life
situation.
