On Reading Levels

Why read normally when you can read better? We should aim to reach a higher
level of reading because doing so will expose us to a wide variety of texts. With this, we
can develop our language skills and expand our vocabulary skills. By reading better we
will know more and we can improve our analytical thinking while widening our
imagination.

Just like learning a new sport, it takes practice in order to execute it properly.
The same goes with reading. How can we do this? Personally, I set my goals and
determine the purpose of why I am reading a certain text. Second, I use my index
finger to guide me as I read through. This trains me to read faster but still
understanding the essence of the text. I also use an audio reading app that reads the
texts out loud. However, most of the time, I read texts aloud myself and this is very
effective for me since a lot of my senses are active. Furthermore, I take notes or
highlight texts in order to keep the information that I would need. Rereading is also a
strategy that I have been using for a long time already because it helps me to
understand and remember everything that I read better. Another practice that has been
effectively helping me is summarizing the reading into points. This makes reviewing the
material faster and in a structured way.

To wrap this all up, I truly agree with the saying, “Nothing good comes easy”. All
it takes is practice and determination and one will get their desired result.
