GRANDVIEW HEAD START Grandview C-4 School District Make the Choice that Changes Lives - Choose to BE INVOLVED! A few suggested ways family members can choose to be actively involved at High Grove Early Childhood Center are described below. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED AND DEEPLY APPRECIATED! Your choices and active involvement assist us in providing quality services and in planning topics for parent activities. YOU CAN assist in the classroom as a volunteer! A wide variety of choices is open to you as a Classroom Volunteer. Become a REGULAR volunteer by coming on a planned basis (at least twice monthly). Or be an OCCASIONAL volunteer by coming whenever your schedule permits. + Classroom Observer: Come to observe what your child does each day. This tells your child you care about them and their education. + Classroom Volunteer: Learn the routine and procedures of the classroom so you can help further a positive learning environment. “ Field Trip Volunteer: Help be responsible for the care and safety of designated children, Broaden children's experiences by talking with them. Trips are taken during class time. + Birthday Helper: Assist by providing unopened, commercially packaged treats to help celebrate your child's birthday. + Classroom Computer Aide: Provide assistance with children’s use of software programs, teach mousing skills, typing children’s dictation and creative writing with children, (Become a confident computer user - put it on your resume!) YOU CAN determine and assist with program activities! * Survey of Training Interests: The interests you mark will help staff provide the activities and workshops you desire to attend, * Program Volunteer: There are special events throughout the year when volunteers are needed to help prepare materials to be given to all the children (party favors, end of the year materials, ete.). Monthly volunteers assist with stapling and preparing the newsletter for distribution. 4 Sharing special talents with others: Many opportunities are available to share the strengths and talents that you have as « family or individual both with other parents and family members or with children in the classroom. Some examples include: teaching a song (English or other language), cook family recipe to share traditions of your culture, play a musical instrument or share another individual talent, share your interest in art, music, dance or crafts, or demonstrate a unique skill you have. COME READ A BOOK TO A CHILD OR SMALL GROUP OR CHILDREN. YOU CAN influence program policy and procedures! & Parent Policy Committee Member: Be elected as a representative of the Early Childhood Center to assist in decision-making for the program. 4 Dads & Dudes Steering Committee: Help plan and implement activities for father / child interactions. High Grove Parent Committee High Grove Early Childhood Center Parent Committee is established to provide every parent of an enrolled child in this center the opportunity to assist in the development of activities that addresses their interests and needs and that support the education and health development of their children. All parents of enrolled children here at High Grove Early Childhood Center are automatically members of the Parent Committee. Committee Officer Positions (Elections for the Committee Officers are held in September of each year.) * Chairperson — Facilitate Meeting using Agenda, Introduce Guests Secretary — Create Fliers, Take Meeting Notes, Communicate with Family Advocates Policy Council Representative — Attends Monthly Meetings, Reports out to HG Committee © Head Start Representative © Early Head Start Representative © Alternative Representative ‘ High Grove Fathers Chairperson — Male Role Model attends events and encourages men to get involved * Volunteer/Event Coordinator — Attends staff planning meetings and shares the input of the HG Committee % Childcare Assistant — Coordinates with Family Advocates for Childcare needs during meetings.
