What’s In
1. Reverse osmosis and distillation are the most common ways to desalinate
water. Reverse osmosis water treatment pushes water through small filters
leaving salt behind. Distillation on a large scale involves boiling water and
collecting water vapor during the process.
2. You can boil or evaporate the water and the salt will be left behind as a solid. If
you want to collect the water, you can use distillation. This works because salt
has a much higher boiling point than water.

Activity 1

Observation
A. I observe that the small pebbles are left in sieve after the smaller rocks are
being filtered from bigger rocks.
B. The cloth are absorbing some water.

Questions
1. Small pebbles because it just go through the sieve
2. I found some water in wet cloth. In this process, water is poured through a
piece of cloth, which removes some of the suspended silt and solids and
destroys some pathogens. After straining, water may not be perfectly safe for
drinking but it can be a drinking water improvement step for people with no other
treatment options.
