UNIT VI – INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT

ACTIVATING PRIOR LEARNING

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING

Our country doesn’t have this kind of innovation which is really essential at these times. The
government is dependent on countries which manufactures Covid 19 vaccines. If other countries can
produce such vaccine, why can’t we? If only our government prioritize developments on relevant
technology such as advanced manufacturing or medicine-related innovation, there is a huge chance that
our country could produce our own vaccine, in that way, we will not be hesitating to be vaccinated
because we could think that it is safe as it was manufactured by our own country.

APPLICATION

1. I picked Indigenous Enabel Craft, owned by Andrea Q. Aswigue, as an example of small-scale

industry. It is a weaving industry located at Quezon, Isabela. I came to know this business at the
trade fair during Baka Festival in our municipality (San Pablo). They sell fabrics, crafts, souvenirs,
weaved clothes, bags, and sometimes supplies display products in some pasalubong centers in
the province. They also provide fabrics to be used during street dance competitions and fashion
shows organized by local government.
2. To create jobs for extra income for weavers in their community regardless of their ages, and to
help improve their living condition.
3. a. The owner was able to get a steady stream of income as orders keep on coming from her
business. She continues to acquire and enhance the needed skills and techniques to meet the
demands of her clients, thus upgrading her knowledge is significant to offer clients new
products.

b. Indigenous Enabel Craft provides livelihood to 11 weavers and improve their living condition
as they do not need to leave their town and work somewhere far. On top of the livelihood
aspect of weaving, what the weavers enjoy the most is having the freedom of expressing their
creativity as their Inabel weaves are not bound by rigid cultural norms and rules, therefore their
designs can be as wild as their imagination.

c. On her business plans, they are eyeing to explore and tap foreign markets so that their
Province would be in lined with well-known indigenous businesses. It also helps stimulate
economic growth by providing employment opportunities to people who may not be employed
by large businesses.

4.
They started with only three loom weaving machines. Because of high demand, the owner was
able to purchased additional looms and hired additional weavers. From three looms, her
business now owns 11 looms which helped her meet the increasing market demand. She was
able to put up a working area for her weavers. They used to work on balcony, now, they have
their own weaving centers where weavers can work better with ease.
5. The owner should consider entering the e-business. I would suggest that they should make their
products available in online shopping apps like Lazada and Shopee, as these are the in demand
buying and selling platforms nowadays. And with this, their products will not only be limited
within the province but will also attract a wide range of clients and consumers.

FEEDBACK

1. Some small-scale industries supports large-scale industries by supplying unique products. Just
like Indigenous Enabel Craft, they have been sourcing fabrics to Manila-based entrepreneurs
including Akaba, WVN Home textiles and Manila Collectibles. Without these products of them,
these large businesses might not be uniquely different from their competitors. This is where
small and large-scale industry complementation takes place.
2. Capital conservation is the proper use of capital so that this will have maximized effect in capital
formation. It is done when excess and unused machine capacity is minimal. It is therefore
making a dynamic use of funds because idle funds are costly.
3. Use of technology has its limitations, machines cannot survive without electricity and
manhandling. If it doesn’t have these two, use of technology is somehow useless. Man should
not completely depend on machines; they only do the tasks fastly but they cannot think.
Manpower have the greatest strength anybody can ever possess and that is the power to think
logically and rationally. Machines have a borrowed intellect. They solely work on our command.
They cannot think themselves. If left unattended, they can get rusted and destroyed. Manpower
learn through experiences or books. This makes them wiser and helps grow, both physically and
mentally. Machines lack this power. They rely on the information fed into their system and
cannot increase it, unless we feed more of it. They do not learn, but do only what we ask from
them. Man only uses technology for innovation.
