What is the Propaganda Movement and


how/what did the Propaganda Movement
contribute when it comes to awakening the
nationalist feelings of the Filipinos?

The propaganda movement started in the


1892 with the aim directed to the Spaniards
who at that time the rulers of the Philippines.

The main goal of this movement is to create


reforms in the Philippines. Reforms like the
propagandists wanted the Philippines to be
recognized as the province of Spain and to be
represented in the Spanish Cortes. The
movement also wanted to have a place for
Filipino priest in the parishes. And lastly,
Filipinos wanted to have equality and
freedom to express their view.

The main propagandist who lead this


movement are Jose Rizal, Marcelo H. Del
Pilar, and Graciano Lopez Jaena.
Rizal’s novels
Can you guess what they contributed to this

Rizal’s novel which are Noli Me Tangere and


El Filibusterismo is one that contributed to
the reform that shows the oppression of the
Spaniards to the Filipinos. Thus, awakening
the nationalist feelings of the Filipinos.
Marcelo H. Del Pilar was the one who publish
the first Filipino newspaper called
“Diyaryong Tagalog”. He also became the
editor for “La Solidaridad”.
Graciano Lopez Jaena is the one who
published the “La Solidaridad” that became
the principal organ and the newspaper of the
movement.

There are also other members of the


movement like Mariano Ponce, Juan Luna,
Antonio Luna and have their own
contribution during the propaganda
movement.

Method):
The Propaganda movement was a peaceful
movement towards change founded in 1892.
The main leaders of the Propaganda
Movement were Marcelo H. Del Pilar, Jose
Rizal, Graciano Lopez Jaena, and other
educated Filipinos who went to Spain.
Although the movement did not succeed
despite the courage and concern
propagandists, there are still two distinct
accomplishments or contributions done. First
was it was successful in expressing the
oppression of the Spaniards against the
Filipinos. It also gave way to the uprising of
the Filipinos.

La Solidaridad – This is the newspaper of the


propaganda movement. It has done much to
the goal of the propagandists. But due to lack
of funding, it didn’t last long.

The Asociación Hispano-Filipino – It was


established to demand reform for Filipinos.
Yes ma’am.
La Liga Filipina – a civic association for
Filipinos. This organization aims to demand
changes, achieve nationwide unity, protection, No ma’am.
develop education, agriculture and trade, and
education. According to Rizal, the member
was poor, but had the ability to study but was
suspected of sedition that is why Rizal was
arrested and thrown into Dapitan.

furthermore see and understand the
movements done by our heroes that helps
awakening the patriotic feelings of every
Filipino.
