(The teacher will read the objectives)
Now, Does anyone have an insight or idea
already about this? None, Sir!

Okay, I will discuss briefly.

So first, what about revolution do you Yes, Sir!
familiar with it?

Very Good!, please listen attentively

because later on we will have our activity
.
Revolution involves a radical change in
government, usually accomplished through
violence, that may also result in changes to
the economic system, social structure, and
cultural values
The Roots of Revolution

• In the Philippines can be traced

back to the Spanish colonial
period, which lasted for more than
300 years. During this time, the

7
Spanish colonizers imposed their
culture, language, and religion on
the Filipino people, and established
a hierarchical system that favored
the Spanish ruling class.
Again, what did the Spanish colonizers Their culture, language, and religion
imposed to the Filipino people?
That’s right! Let’s proceed,

• This system led to widespread

poverty and inequality, as Filipinos
were forced to work for low wages
and pay high taxes to the Spanish
government.

Why this led a widespread poverty Because the Filipinos are forced to work for
and inequality? low wages and pay high taxes

Correct!

• In the late 19th century, a new wave

of nationalism began to emerge in
the Philippines, fueled by factors
such as the rise of liberalism and
democracy in Europe, as well as
the writings of Filipino
intellectuals and activists. These
nationalists called for reforms that
would grant Filipinos more rights
and freedoms, and allow them to
participate in government and
society.
Again, what happened in the late 19th Nationalism in the Philippines was fueled
century? by the rise of liberalism and democracy,
and the writings of Filipino intellectuals
and activists, calling for reforms to give
Filipinos more rights and freedoms.
Very good!

• However, the Spanish government

responded to these calls for reform
with repression and violence,
which only fueled the nationalist
movement. This eventually led to
the Philippine Revolution in 1896,
which was a major armed struggle
against Spanish rule. Although the
revolution was initially
unsuccessful, it paved the way for
the eventual independence of the
Philippines in 1946.
Do you understand class? Yes, Sir!

• Overall, the Roots of the

revolution in the Philippines were
deeply rooted in the social,
economic, and political conditions
of the Spanish colonial period,
which created widespread poverty,
8
inequality, and limited
opportunities for Filipinos to
participate in government and
society. The nationalist movement
that emerged in response to these
conditions eventually led to the
Philippine Revolution, which
played a pivotal role in the
country’s history and its struggle
for independence
Thus, what had deep roots in the In social, economic and political
Philippines’ revolution? conditions of the Spanish colonizers.
Does everyone already comprehend the Yes, Sir!
