When around other people, I start conversation or keep to myself?

As an introvert, mostly I will keep to myself as I am not proactive in starting a conversation. I

am more passive during a conversation because I prefer to listen rather than talking. For me,
stepping out of my comfort zone is hard and I think having some best friends is enough for me
rather that a big group of friends.
I am more interested in current happenings or future possibility?
I am more towards observing the happenings around me, thus I am interested in the current
happenings. I always like to focus more on now as future there are many uncertainties which I
cannot control.
I make decisions based on logic or feelings?
For me, I am a bit more on trusting my own six sense when it comes to decision making although
it might be wrong. I always make decisions by emphasizing on people’s feelings more rather
than the logical way as I think human relationship is more important.
I am most comfortable being a planner or spontaneous?
I prefer to be a planner person as I like being more arranged. A planner can make me know what
I should do during the whole day. Besides that, being a planner can also make me be prepared for
any unexpected situation that may happen.
Holland – organizing
My holland preference is conventional which is organizing. I like to work with data, processes,
and systems as it is a repeated task. So, the careers that suits me are also aligned with the
accounting programme which I am studying. Example of careers are accountant, auditor and
financial analyst are suitable for me as some of the task such as bookkeeping and crosschecking
the documents are part of organizing task.
Strategies to overcome challenges
Strategy 2: Enhancing soft skills needed in the workplace
According to the survey done by National Association of Colleges and Employers in 2018, the
soft skills that were most sought by the employer from university graduates are problem-solving
skills, ability to work in a team, written communication skills and leadership.
Hence, students need to equip themselves with the skills needed. For example, communication
skills are important as the social circle in university might be different from the social circle in
work. A new environment means acquiring a whole new array of relationships. Thus, constantly
keeping an open mind and a humble attitude can make the transition much smoother. For
example, never be afraid to ask questions, be proactive and friendly to reach out to people,
graciously accept help and advice when people offer it.
Furthermore, university students should also join more extracurricular activities to improve their
soft skills. By actively participating and holding management position in these activities,
students can equip themselves with the skills needed such as critical-thinking and leadership
skills.
However, there are some impacts of COVID-19 towards these strategies. With restrictions on
physical distancing, gatherings, and enforcement of work from home, everything is virtual
nowadays. Students who are new entries to the workplace might not easily get along with their
coworkers in the virtual world. This will reduce their sense of belonging and reduce the chance
of building rapports with new people.
Besides that, most of the physical activities are prohibited to make sure they are safe-distancing.
Thus, students may find alternative ways of boosting up their soft skills such as attending online
webinars.
That’s all for our group video presentation and thanks for watching.
