ACTIVITY 1
CHRISTIAN MARTINEZ
PROFESSOR
People need fitness and wellness at every stage of their lives. A sedentary lifestyle may lead to more
visits to the doctor, hospitalization, and even chronic disorders. Depending on your age and health, you
must exercise every day. Workouts have a number of benefits.
Fitness helps you enjoy life and carry out day-to-day tasks without getting fatigued. A fit body and mind
can generate more output and workplace productivity. Fitness and wellness are also markers of our key
physical parameters like B.P, lipids, hormones, and mental health issues.
Besides productivity, fitness also helps maintain a healthy relationship with your family and friends. It
creates better emotional and social bonds that add meaning and purpose to life.
Fitness is very important for good health. Besides feeling better mentally, exercising can help protect
you from heart disease, stroke, obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure and it can make you look
younger, increase and maintain bone density, improve the quality of your life, and may keep you from
getting sick. Exercising also helps you control stress better, and can make you feel happier and less
nervous.
The following factors usually affect the physical fitness and wellness of an individual:
1. Regular Exercise: It is the most important factor which affects the physical fitness of an
individual.
2. Amount of Training: The amount of training also affects the physical fitness. If the amount of
training is not up to desirable level, he will be incapable of improving his physical fitness. It
should be increased slowly.
3. Rest and Relaxation: It also affect the physical fitness of an individual. If proper rest and
relaxation are taken, there will be positive effect on the physical fitness of an individual.
4. Stress and Tension: It tends to have a negative effect on physical fitness and wellness. Stress
and Tension decreases the psychological power of an individual.
5. Age: It is also one of the major factors which affect the physical fitness and wellness of an
individual.
6. Gender: It also affects the level of physical fitness and wellness. In fact, there is an
anatomical, physiological, and psychological difference between males and females.
7. Environment: The environment, which includes climate, temperature, altitude, social, and
cultural factors affect the physical fitness and wellness of a person.
8. Diet: It also influences the level of physical fitness and wellness. Good diet helps not only in
maintaining the physical fitness but it also improves the level of physical fitness.
C. How do you assess your Fitness and wellness?
You’ve almost certainly heard of core stability (the strength and function of the deep stabilising
muscles of the trunk) – but how is yours? ‘The plank’ will give you the answer, as it is a position
that you will find difficult to hold if your core stability is poor. Simply practicing this exercise
movement will soon get your core stabilisers firing.
6. Loop-The-Loop – To Assess Shoulder Mobility
Hours working at a computer, surfing the net, watching TV, driving or simply sitting with poor
posture can cause the shoulders to tighten up and the joints to lose mobility. The loop-the-loop
exercise test assesses your shoulder mobility in all directions.
7. Wet Footprint Test – To Assess Foot Strike Pattern
Words like pronation and motion control are bandied around freely in running and fitness
circles, but instead of forking out for a full-scale gait analysis, an easy and more cost effective
way to test your type of foot and foot strike pattern you have is to carry out the wet footprint
test yourself.
8. Vertical Jump – To Assess Explosive Power
Power is the ability to exert a force quickly. It’s what gets sprinters off the blocks and basket
ballers shooting hoops. To exert power, all your muscle fibers have to be recruited, so people
with lots of endurance, but less strength, are often quite poor at it.
