Solve Ninja success story

The ‘Period Solution’ group of Solve
Ninjas from DPS North discovered
that about 6500 pads a month
were being disposed of incorrectly in
the school premises. This was
creating a problem for the cleaning
staff who had to deal with it
firsthand.

With the help of their

school principal, they
got incinerators
repaired and running
on every floor.

They also conducted a

campaign to create
awareness on
menstrual hygiene,
environmental impact
and de-stigmatising
menstruation

1700 Students and

Housekeeping staff

Out of which 400 are considering

switching to sustainable alternatives
like menstrual cups, cloth pads,
period panties and 114 have already
switched. They also distributed
sustainable menstrual products to
80 staff members.

This has not only helped them

create momentum around
sustainable sanitation practices but
also through their efforts, they have
collectively prevented 10,000 kg of
waste a year from being
generated.

Sanitation Mapping
Sanitation is important to maintain
public health and wellness. It is
everybody’s right to have access to
clean water, hygiene in public toilets
and have a well working sewage
disposal system.

However, many of the public places

might not be well maintained in this

public halls, hospitals, public toilets
and wash areas. This could make the

Solve Ninja success story

Solve Ninja, Navneet
Kaur identified the
problem lack of a
drainage and sewage
system in her village
Chahal of Faridkot,
Punjab.

In order to understand
its effect on the water
sources in the village
since the waste matter
also seeps into the
ground water. She
conducted a TDS study
to measure the amount
of fecal matter and
other undissolved solids
in the water.

Based on this she moved the motion

for a better drainage and sanitation
system in the village making way for
the solution of building 7 cemented
tanks for fecal matter and pits for
waste water along with the
sarpanch!
