STRUCTURAL FUNCTIONALIST, CONFLICT, AND SYMBOLIC INTERACTIONISM

PERSPECTIVES CONCERNING CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF SOCIAL
PROBLEMS RELATED TO DEVIANCE, INEQUALITY, SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS,
AND MODERNIZATION- 1ST REPORT(Dolly Dalisay)

1. What are the social problems during the pandemic? What was the social reform taken to
address it?
The pandemic itself is a social problem. In which it affects a lot of aspect of people’s life.
Specifically, the education sector was challenged on how it will continue to serve and function as it
is. Through policy changes and flexibility of the different education sector, education had been
possible for millions of the students in both public and private students. Modular and online classes
had been utilized to deliver learning and knowledge.

DECLINE IN QUALITY EDUCATION- 2ND REPORT(Stephen John Tulabing)

1. What measures can you or the government take to improve the quality of education?
Improving the quality of education would hard but possible as long as the policy makers
and other essential people would be giving their best and commit their selves in improvement of
education. Curriculum guide is like a bible to the teachers. It provides the teachers of the course
and competencies that students should learn. But, according to the teachers, curriculum guide has
to a lot of learning competencies, and it is suffocating to the part of the students. Policy makers
should amend or make some changes in it to focus on more relevant learning competencies as
well as learning competencies that could be critical in their lives. In accordance to the Philippine
Constitution, education should be provided with the highest budget allocation but it is so
questionable that DepEd could not provide teachers with some gadgets relevant to the teaching-
learning process and of course, public schools experienced lack of school building and facilities
in order to reinforce learning. DepEd and leaders should have sense of urgency on this matter.
How could the DepEd envisioned global competency that even they could not supply equipment
and valuable things for the process. The organization should reflect on this matter for it could
affect the citizens in all other aspect.
PEACE EDUCATION- 3rd REPORT(Shaina Tulabing)

1. What current problems do you see in the implementation and integration of peace education?

As we try to inculcate and education students about peace, foundation should be built in
order to internalize the essence of peace education. I guess, the hindrance to peace
education is how the students being taught and practice their values. Values are the
fundamentals in improving their attitude towards peace education. Schools should
strongly develop students not just in cognitive part but also their affective part. As what I
observed, subject about values education was taken less seriously in the curriculum and it
may be the cause that students had a hard time in containing the principle of peace
education and the essence of this in the world.

CURRICULUM ENHANCEMENT/ INTERNALIZATION STANDARDS/ ISSUES

OF GLOBALIZATION IN EDUCATION-4th REPORT(Genelyn Malana)

1. Globalization has changed the system of education, shaping the education doesn't make any
changes.
As society progress in many aspects that could change the life of each individual,
education also has taken its steps in order follow the trend and cope up with these
challenges. Just like DepEd, it has honed its students to let them compete in the global
setting. The institution is determined to equip the learners with the practical skills and
values so that it could be helpful when they face the reality in global competition. I
disagree with the sentence “shaping the education doesn't make any changes”. It is so
wrong that planning the curriculum doesn’t reflect to change because having a set of
objectives or competency will guide the teachers in order to develop or initiate change to
the skill set of the students but of course, education should always be flexible or
adaptable to the current situation or trend in education so that it could breakthrough and
participate in highly competitive atmosphere.

EDUCATION BUDGET AFFORDABILITY OF EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

AND GRANTS- 5th REPORT(Nazario N. Barbante Jr & Leanna Marie F. Olis)

1. Is Education affordable in the Philippines?

Of course, education is affordable in the Philippines since elementary to high

school has no tuition fee to be paid. Also, the learning materials are not the burden of the
parents during the process. MOOE or school budget system in the Philippines ensured
that the students will be given an equal opportunity to learn despite the economical status.
It is just that the poverty rate of the Philippines is too high that it caused some problem in
the teaching-learning system. This rooted in the history of the politics or appointed
leaders that we had. Corruption has to be the main player of this problem that made a lot
of Filipino families suffered from corruption.
ISSUES AND CONCERNS ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH, AND
PHYSICAL WELL-BEING OF TEACHERS- 6TH REPORT(ELAINE LOUISE B.
MAGADAN & DARYL REY RASAGA)

1. Make a reflection paper or your takeaways regarding the topic “ISSUES & CONCERNS ABOUT
MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING OF TEACHERS”

It was a miserable situation when pandemic hit all the educational sector throughout the
globe. A lot of things happened that not only the schools were affected but teachers also
suffered from variety of aftereffect of the pandemic. Changes in the system was forced in
order to manage the situation with all the protocol, shift of modality and different
bridging activity to keep the students intact and guided. Mental and physical issues are
present during the pandemic. Teachers has gone through with webinars so that they could
manage the process or transition of change but still teachers are also human. They also
absorb problems and issues with regards of the mental and physical aspects. Hurried
implementations in the institutions had greatly reduced the efficiency and their passion in
teaching. We may be see the success on the transition but one thing is for sure that
teachers had been dealing some issues that led to them to serious mental and physical
stress. Educational leaders should prevent this and make moves about it because it was
given a little amount of attention because of the “mentality” that is their work or duty.
But it is also their ”work” to maintain and protect the teachers from different threat that
could affect their teachers.

MODERN TRENDS OF TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT, TEACHER

CAPABILITIES, ATTITUDE AND DEDICATION TOWARDS TEACHING AS A
PROFESSION, MISSION AND VOCATION- 7 th REPORT(LOVELY JANE
LANIT & BEBS CATHERINE SUMATRA)

1. Comparing these trends to traditional teaching methods, how advantage is the modern trends of
teaching and assessment?
One thing is for sure that the way of assessing our students as to today has reach a high
peak because of lots of things that we could integrate during the assessment. Traditional
assessment was anchored with outdated philosophy but because of the continuous
research and development, there were some strategies being introduced to enhance and
assess the skills accurately but also it could bring out the attention of the students.
Integration and educational technology could advance the process of assessment and
evaluation and that is why teachers should always learn the new trends and read research
about it to have a new arsenal in his/her bag.
