Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

Larong Pinoy is the game of our heritage (Laro ng Lahi). Generations of

Filipinos have treasured it as a cultural treasure (yaman ng lahi). It is a beloved activity

that spans generations and is dear to Filipinos' hearts, enjoyed by everyone from our

grandparents to our parents to today's youth and young children. While tour package is

considered as a pre-planned, pre-paid trip that combines two or more types of travel,

such as air travel, ground transportation, lodging, and other services. According to

estimates from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), there were

only 25 million international visitors in 1950. 68 years later, the annual number of

foreign arrivals has risen to 1.4 billion. This represents a 56-fold rise, which means one

of the things that people plan for and spend money on is traveling.

Nowadays, people were being conquered by technology. It gives ease to all

people to do their tasks at home and send messages wherever whenever people are.

Through that Larong Pinoy slowly disappeared and was replaced by Online games such

as Mobile Legends, Valorant, League of Legends, Grand Theft Auto, and so on, which

people get addicted to and cause physical and mental issues sometimes. The number of

online gamers is currently estimated at 1 billion, with China, South Korea, and Japan

having the largest populations of online gamers. Online gaming audiences are
San Sebastian College-Recoletos Canlubang Campus 3

anticipated to reach 1.3 billion users by 2025. The healthiest option for gaming so far is

larong pinoy. Man has engaged in outdoor athletic recreation since the dawn of time. It

aids in children's healthy physical development, the development of muscular strength,

and body fitness. It improves your health and does more. Comparing outdoor activity

players to online gamers, it has been found that the former has higher self-confidence.

This is because playing games in-person requires more effort and upkeep than playing

games online does. With this self-assurance, people eventually develop the ability to

overcome challenges in life as if they were field games.

Therefore, the objective of the researcher is to preserve the beauty of Philippine

culture by incorporating Larong Pinoy into all travel packages that both foreigners and

Filipinos will purchase. Moreover, this study intends to highlight and convey back to

everyone visiting the Philippines, the high standard of living of Larong Pinoy.

Additionally, it aids in preserving Philippine Culture over time. Moreover, it can benefit

guest in unwinding throughout their stay and in engaging in new or missed activities.

Objectives of the Study

Incorporating Larong Pinoy into the tour packages that everyone will purchase is

the study's main goal. By showcasing it to all potential customers, it seeks to preserve

the uniqueness of the Philippine nation. Additionally, it will encourage people,

especially people of this generation, to take care of their health by participating in

outdoor activities without technology. Furthermore, if we are acknowledged as the most

visited country, it will boost our economic growth, particularly in the tourism industry.

The figure above showed that the Larong Pinoy was used as an input and was

part of a tour package in the Philippines. To do this, the researcher will create and

distribute a social media advertisement that highlights the game, the setting in which it

was created, and the gameplay itself. In doing so, a survey questionnaire will be used.

THE REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES

This chapter discusses the ideas, articles, finished thesis and synthesis. These

were included in this part helps in building information that are relevant and like the

present study.

Larong Pinoy Advocacy & Community Engagement

Aguado (2011) The Filipino Street Games is a cultural Treasure cherished by

generations of Filipinos. In the age of Modern technology & high-tech game

gadgets, Magna Kultura Foundation advocated the revival of the Games of our heritage

among the new generation. It bonds children and adults. It enlivens communities, at the

same time; it created livelihood opportunities at the grassroots. It is both social and

cultural entrepreneurship.

Mabuyok Festival: Larong Pinoy

The Ethnic and Native dances are facet of the festivity presented in the streets or

on stages. In addition, Choral contests, and Sports and Larong Pinoy competitions are

respectively highlighted. The aim of the festival is to imbue the Mainitnons‟ love and

fondness of the indigenous culture and traditions inherited from the historic times, and

by through this festival, they may encourage and attract tourists and balikbayans alike

and shall eventually institutionalize Mabuyok as vital and principal feature of the

“Adlaw Nan Mainit” Celebration (George, 2015)

E-learning strategies for engendering local knowledge appreciation in teenage

learners

Larong Pinoy on weebly is an interesting collaborative work among teenagers

15-16 years of age who call themselves the Pinoy Republic group. Their objective in

setting up the simple website is “to promote nationalism, strengthen family ties, involve

the community in worthwhile activities, and keep the children in school through games

and sports.” As young as they are, they hope to bring back the larong pinoy in the

country. The site has compilations of Filipino games complete with photos and short

description of how they are being played. It also has an interesting section comparing

“healthy games” versus computer games and their pros and cons. One can even take a

test to determine whether you are suffering from computer games addiction.

Larong Pinoy Corporate Team Building Sports Fest

This article by Dickie Agudao (2014) presented that team-Building Activity

using Sports as a platform; specifically, using the Traditional Filipino Street Games as

activities. The program is organized by Magna Kultura Foundation, the National

Organizer of the Filipino Games in the Philippines. The Palarong Pinoy events are

conducted in a Mini-Olympics sports format with referees, marshals, and a tournament

San Sebastian College-Recoletos Canlubang Campus 7

system that organizes adults into teams with Team Captains and Coaches. Adults are

immersed into fun games like: Patintero, Tumbang Preso, Piko, Luksong Lubid,

Luksong Tinik, Chinese Garter, Sipang Bilangan, and various Pinoy relay race games.

Larong Pinoy Games are equally fun and challenging. It‟s an unforgettable experience

that each and every one will cherish, as it will bring out the child in every participant. It

will bring back the good „old days when they all use to play it. The program is organized

to make the Traditional Filipino Street Games available for adults. Organizing Larong

Pinoy Sports Fest for Private companies is among the cultural entrepreneurship

approaches of Magna Kultura to revive the Games of our Heritage (Laro ng Lahi)

among Filipino adults who use to play the games; so that they too can teach their

children how to play the games. Thus, bring back the Filipino games back in the

mainstream of Philippine society, among children and adults.

Synthesis

Some of the selected relevant literatures include Larong Pinoy Advocacy &

Community Engagement, Mabuyok Festival: Larong Pinoy, E-learning strategies for

fostering local knowledge appreciation in teenage learners, and Larong Pinoy Corporate

Team Building Sports Fest, which are all related to the researcher's goals. The Larong

Pinoy Advocacy & Community Engagement and Larong Pinoy Corporate Team

Building Sports Fest shared the same goal of encouraging the younger generations to

revive our heritage sports, which revitalizes local communities while also generating
San Sebastian College-Recoletos Canlubang Campus 8

opportunities for locals to make a living. Furthermore, it is a social and cultural

entrepreneur while Larong Pinoy Corporate Team Building Sports Fest discusses the

revival of the Games of Our Heritage (Laro ng Lahi) among Filipino adults who used to

play the games so that they can also teach the games to their children. As a result,

encourage both adults and children to play Filipino games again in the country's larger

society. While the Mabuyok Festival: Larong Pinoy and E-learning strategies for

fostering local knowledge appreciation in teenage learners share the same goals of

showcasing larong pinoy to imbue the locals' love and fondness of the indigenous

culture and traditions passed down from historical times, this also encourages tourists

who attended the festival to participate in the activities, in line with this is the creation of

websites where they posted compiled photos of the games. Additionally, it aims to

"promote nationalism, strengthen family ties, engage the community in worthwhile

endeavors, and keep the children in school through games and sports."

As a result, many people also desired the revival of the culture that is gradually

disappearing, particularly the Larong Pinoy, which gave us many memorable times with

our friends and family during our formative years. The researcher wants to incorporate it

into tour packages so that travelers will learn about it and, perhaps, pass it along to the

current and following generations. By having our own game and the best entertainer in

the world, we can promote our nation while preserving our uniqueness. Being the most
San Sebastian College-Recoletos Canlubang Campus 9

visited country in the world can also spur growth in our economy, particularly in the

tourism sector.

THE RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, respondents of the study, sampling

techniques, instruments, and validation of instruments which are all about the methods

for the effective research.

Research Design

The process of the research was in form of quantitative analysis. This review will

produce customer‟s insight with regards in including larong pinoy in all tour packages.

Aside from looking into others work, the researcher will manage to enumerate and

evaluate own findings. The main plan of this study is to conduct effective, engageable,

and affordable experiences of larong pinoy to all tour packages in the customers.

Respondents of the Study

This study will be responded by persons ages 18 – 40 since they are the ones that

can possibly purchase the services. While we are still adapting to getting back in the

normal features, the researcher concludes that the respondents will answer the

questionnaire through the help of technology by sending to all their available social

media accounts by the usage of Google Forms. There is no specific place where it will

be conducted, since it will be held online, international/foreign possible clients in the

future will be sent questionnaire too.

San Sebastian College-Recoletos Canlubang Campus 11

Sampling Technique

Filipino and Foreign respondents who responds from this study was selected

using random sampling that accurately represents the population needed by the

researcher and then the researchers randomly distributed as many as needed sample.

Instruments

The researcher will use questionnaire as a course of action and as a process.

Questionnaire will be a great help for the researcher to collect legit results from the

respondents. The respondents need to mark the given factors enable them to answer the

questions properly whether they strongly agree, moderately agree, agree, slightly agree,

or disagree.

Validation of Instruments

The researcher will develop questions that can measure the variables perception

and will wait for their feedback to allow the further improvement of the instruments. The

researcher will consult the research expert who named Mr. Roberto Gonzales, where he

will validate the instruments including judging if it is meaningful, significant, have its

purpose and see if appropriate words were used.
