LIFTS
INTRODUCTION
LIFT is a type of vertical
transport equipment that efficiently
moves people or goods between floors of
a building.

NEED OF LIFTS

• Less land
• More population
• Resulting soln. is high rise building
• A mode to travel
• For comfort in climbing
• To save time

PASSENGERS LIFT
(ALL DIMENSIONS IN MM)
GOODS LIFT
HOSPITAL LIFT
Must accommodate a 24*76 in. stretcher with
attendants.

• MAXIMUM PLATFORM SIZE - 6 ft wide * 9 ft.6 in.

• LOAD CAPACITY - 5000 lb
• DOORS WIDTH - 4 ft. to 4 ft 6 in.
• SPEED - High
HOSPITAL LIFTS
SERVICE LIFTS / DUMBWAITERS
• CAR SIZE - 24in. *24in., 30in. *30in.
• MAXIMUM PLATFORM SIZE - 9 sq. ft
• LOAD CAPACITY - 500 lb
• SPEED - 50 ft/min.
• MAXIMUM HEIGHT - 48 in.
SERVICE LIFTS
• ELECTRICITY REQUIRE - 3 phase power
HOME ELEVATORS
• CAR SIZE - 36in. * 36in. ,
42in. *42in.
• MAXIMUM PLATFORM SIZE - 12
sq. ft
• LOAD CAPACITY - 450 lb
• SPEED - 30 ft/min.
• ELECTRICITY REQUIRE –
220 /230 volt, single phase
NUMBER OF FLOORS SPEED
• 4 to 5 - 0.5 to 0.75 m/s
• 6 to 12 - 0.75 to 1.5 m/s
• 3 to 20 - 1.5 to 2.5 m/s
• Above 20 - 2.5 m/s and above

QUALITY OF SERVICE / ACCEPTABLE INTERVAL

• 20 to 25 seconds - Excellent
• 30 to 35 seconds - Good
• 34 to 40 seconds - Fair
• 45 seconds - Poor
• Over 45 seconds - Unsatisfactory

RATED SPEED also known as max speed the car can attend when it is
at its rated load. rated load is maximum load for which the lift is
being designed to carry them safely.
R.T.T.
Round Trip Time(R.T.T.) is the time taken by the lift after stopping at
entrance lobby (ground floor) for performing the entire trip after
serving the most probable number of floors.
It is presumed that lift serve to all floors while ascending and comes
down to ground floor directly from last floor during peak hours.

HANDLING CAPACITY
H = 7.5% for residential building (5% as per N.B.C.)
= 10-15% for diversified tenancy office building.
= 15-25% for single occupancy office building.

Handling Capacity = 300 x Q x 100 / T x P

Where, Q = Average numbers of passengers carried on a car.

T = waiting interval = Quality of service = R.T.T./N
P = population during peak time.
N = number of lift
CALCULATION OF R.T.T.
R.T.T. = entrance lobby time + Sn x floor serving time + return trip
time(D-2d)vc

Where, Sn = most probable number of stop

NP
Sn = n[1-{(n-1)/n} ]

Where, n = total number of floors served above ground floor.

P
N = total nub of passengers entering the car at ground floor.

D = total lift travel in one direction (m)

Vc = Contract speed of elevator in m/s also
d = distance travelled during acceleration or de-acceleration (m)
2
d = ft / 2
2
Where, f = acceleration in m/sec
t = time for acceleration
= 2 second for lift upto 2.5 m/s
