Objectives:
1. Identify the steps in conducting preventive maintenance,
2. Enumerate the different forms of preventive maintenance, and
3. Appreciate the importance of preventive maintenance.
II. General Directions:
Read the information about Basic Preventive Maintenance below. Do the learning task,
answer the written works and follow the instruction provided for each activity. Use a
separate sheet of paper if needed.
III. Activities/ Learning Task
Learning Task 1: Introduction
Tools and equipment if where highly maintained and kept properly will lasts longer. A
carpenter knows exactly how to maintain and takes care of his/her carpentry tools.

Preventive maintenance is uphold and it requires planning and scheduling of tools and
equipment before it falls short. Corollary, this process is helpful to attain our goal that
tools and equipment will lasts in longer span of time as compared on the flip side.

2. Condition-based maintenance is sometimes considered to be a more advanced
alternative to preventive maintenance. Rather than being inspected consistently with a
schedule, machines and systems are carefully observed for changes that would indicate
upcoming failure.
3. Predictive maintenance refers to a specific type of condition-based maintenance in
which systems are constantly observed via sensor devices.
4. Corrective maintenance is initiated when a problem is discovered while working on
another work order. With corrective maintenance issues are caught ‘just in time'.
5. Predetermined maintenance is carried out using rules and suggestions created by the
original manufacturer, rather than the maintenance team.
These are steps in conducting preventive maintenance of carpentry tools:
1. Read and analyze the utilization of of preventive Maintenance Schedule form.
2. Determine the types of tools and machines needed to be lubricated.
3. Fill out a requisition slip form in releasing the lubricants needed.
4. Secure a borrower’s slip from your teacher.
5. Fill out the slip form correctly intended for the needed tools.
6. Perform the task consistent with the prescribed schedule and therefore the assigned
machine.
7. Perform lubricating procedure.
8. Determine the parts of the machine needed to be lubricated.
9. Apply thin coat of oil on the parts for an extended period of time.
10.Open the bearing cover and apply grease.
11.Apply grease on sealed bearing with the using grease gun.
