Reproduction For A Panda

The panda bears use internal fertilisation. Internal fertilization affords the
species a better chance of reproductive success by protecting the sperm and egg
from external predation. Internal fertilization cuts down on excessive sperm and
egg amounts being used to ensure that there are an adequate number of
survivors.

Female pandas give birth to one or two young, however, most of the time, only
one young survives. A panda zygote takes 95-160 days to develop and get ready
to be born. Panda cubs may stay with their mother for up to three years before
striking out on their own.

Pandas are always born female and the only way they can become male is if
their given a big fright within 48 hours of being born. They also cannot do not
learn to walk until at least 90 days after birth; this means their mother helps
them around until they learn to walk.
