Jordyn is very active. This is definitely a plus as she teaches 35 students on the outdoor field. She knows
where every student is at all times.
Jordyn knows her subject area and can adapt to fit the indoor or outdoor environment. She has great rapport
with the students as well as fellow staff members.

Intern Teacher’s Descriptive Report:

Through planning and preparation my long range plan was compiled of various competitive games, dance and
rhythmic movements, and individual activities. My lessons were often sequenced with skill based drills which
then transferred into modified game type activities. I was fortunate enough to have a wide variety of resources
and equipment from Senator Joyce Fairbairn School. The opportunities for games and activities were endless.
Considering many of our units were located outside, time management was crucial. There were many aspects
to consider for time management; attendance, instruction, set up, warm-up, activity, clean up, and
cool-down/closure. In regards to planning for ISPs and learning needs, I was required to modify games for
varying skill levels. Additionally, games were constantly modified for student choice. Students were given the
option to participate in either competitive or semi-competitive games. For greater needs, students were
engaged through extra tasks and/or jobs whether it was score keeping, organizing games, or refereeing, etc.

In regards to extra-curricular activities, I was fortunate enough to be a part of many major athletic events under
the guidance of the physical education team. I had the opportunity to help run both our school cross-country
meet and the LSAA cross-country meet. I was able to observe and learn how much time, planning, preparation,
and commitment is required for such events. Furthermore, I was given the opportunity to help run our flock
festival home volleyball tournament. Again, I learned the preparation and dedication it took for the entire
physical education team to run a successful tournament. I was given the role to create the program booklet for
the tournament and also provide breaks for score keepers and refs when necessary. Additionally, as a group of
student interns we had the honor to organize and run the first in person remembrance day ceremony ever at
the school. We were given the independence and confidence to present a solemn and respectful ceremony for
the staff and students of our school. Finally, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to coach the boys
rep volleyball team. This was by far one of the most rewarding and gratifying experiences I experienced during
my internship. I was able to build meaningful relationships in a unique way and was able to be a part of team
bonding events like the LCI senior night. It was amazing to see the players find their place in a setting outside
of school. All in all, I’m incredibly proud of the progress made by the team through conflict resolution, team
adversity and individual differences, to then winning the city championships. This team reached heights I didn’t
know they were capable of and they did so by working through many challenges throughout their season.
However, in the end they found a way to come together as a team and win as a team.

I was able to incorporate various instructional strategies throughout my internship by providing clear
communication of rules, lesson introduction, discussions, questioning, and transitions. Some examples were;
direct instruction, cooperative learning, peer teaching, and teaching games for understanding. Through my
internship students were exposed to a wide variety of fundamental movements and forms of instruction such
as; sport specific skills, modified games, discussions surrounding prior knowledge, goal setting, rhythmic
sequences and dance patterns, etc. These strategies supported a wide array of learning needs.

Intern Teacher’s Descriptive Report (Page 2 continued):

Through discussions, drills, and activities we were then able to assess the skill level and adapt/modify the
lesson depending on the prior knowledge and skills of the students. This was one example of seeking student
learning in order to then build on their prior knowledge and skills. Additionally, with physical education being
very dependent on weather, spacing issues, learning needs, time, etc., we especially have to be flexible in
adapting our lesson plans.
With regards to FNMI integration I incorporated FNMI knowledge as an introduction to my lacrosse unit. Our
Indigenous Education middle school teacher was able to provide a great depth of resources which included a
power point acknowledging the origins of lacrosse. Therefore, the power point recognized the game ‘stick
ball’, explaining the history, why it was played, and how the game evolved to become the competitive sport it
is today. Additionally, I invited a guest lacrosse athlete to our lacrosse unit to help motivate student
engagement and create excitement for a sport many youth struggle with as it requires a higher level of skill.

Through learning from my teacher mentor, I was able to reflect and develop stronger classroom management
skills and leadership. By setting strict but also fair expectations and standards for students there was greater
consistency and respect within the classroom environment. Additionally, through team teaching I also
learned many other forms of classroom management and instructional strategies from other experienced
teachers. Students were reminded daily on appropriate behaviors, rules, routines, and expectations and were
addressed accordingly when needed. Through establishing respectful boundaries, responsibility, and
structure there was opportunity for a successful cooperative classroom culture for all.
With regards to assessment, both formative and summative assessments were incorporated. Therefore, our
first unit began with a self-assessment for participation and cooperation. This allowed students to reflect and
also recognize their strengths and areas for improvement. Furthermore, skill testing was also integrated into
the volleyball and basketball unit, which focused on sport specific skills and abilities. Additionally, game play
and cooperation were also assessed as a core component of our basketball unit. Finally, the most frequently
used form of assessment was done through observation and discussion. Observations and discussions were
integrated daily when observing student participation and behavior, tracking their daily efforts for
improvement and success.

Through ethical conducts of the Alberta Teacher’s Association and the various professional learning sessions
that were provided, I was exposed to a wide variety of ways on how to incorporate career-long learning. I
also believe through my opportunities in sports, athletics, and extra-curricular activities I was able to build
meaningful relationships with staff, students, and athletes. Furthermore, I also observed fellow
teachers/interventionists in various subjects outside of the gym, learning new teaching styles and strategies
for professional growth. Below I will provide the website link to my professional portfolio which displays my
entire education journey throughout the past 2 years. It includes my professional growth plan and
professional inquiry project. Throughout my professional portfolio I recognize my professional attributes,
responsibilities and growth that I dedicated throughout my internship.

Teacher Mentor Comments:

Jordy Bryant’s University Practicum and Internship began on August 29th, 2022 and continued until December
23, 2022. Jordyn’s teaching assignment consisted of teaching grade 6 and grade 7 physical education at
Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School.

Jordyn quickly became an integral part of our physical education program at Senator Joyce Fairbairn. During
her time here she was responsible for preparing, developing, and evaluating a variety of different
developmentally appropriate activities including lacrosse, volleyball, football, basketball, fitness, dance, and
games. Jordyn’s lessons were always effective, her assessment was fair and classroom management was
consistent.

Jordyn demonstrates a love of teaching. She has effective communication skills and takes the time to
acknowledge and build relationships with her students. She is adaptable and flexible to the needs of her
students and demonstrates strong knowledge in her subject area. She is well organized, goal oriented and
passionate about her career. Her strong work-ethic, energy, self-discipline, flexibility, and natural openness to
share innovative ideas are a perfect fit for Middle School philosophy.

In addition to her teaching duties Jordyn was very committed to our co-curricular program. With a passion for
volleyball Jordyn took on the task of being the head coach of the boys’ volleyball team. Her commitment to this
team was immense and involved countless hours of time outside of her teaching day. Her knowledge,
experience and commitment to this team led them to a City Championship – not a small feat. As a member of
our physical education team, she was also involved in the organization of a school and city cross-country meet
where she oversaw set up, finish line and data entry. She also invested time organizing our Flock Festival
volleyball tournament where she not only coached but assisted with scorekeeping and refereeing whenever
needed. She was indeed committed to getting involved and learning all she could during her internship at
Senator Joyce Fairbairn.

Along with athletic commitments Jordyn helped supervised school dances, band/guitar concerts, and
volunteered to assist with our fine arts festival. Jordyn was always eager to help other staff members. Jordyn
functioned as a scribe and reader for core exams and volunteered to assist other teachers in their classroom
whenever needed. Additionally, as an intern group Jordyn had the opportunity to run the first in person
Remembrance Day ceremony ever at the school.
This is certainly indicative of her commitment to the multiple aspects involved in our profession.

As part of her PSIII requirement Jordyn developed an exemplary professional portfolio. Her portfolio is a true
testament to her dedication, commitment, and passion for teaching.

Administrator Comments:
Jordyn conducted herself as a true professional during her PSIII practicum round and went above and
beyond what is expected of a student teacher. Jordyn could be counted on to be punctual and prepared.
Jordyn used a wide variety of teaching strategies within her units (Football, Volleyball, Lacrosse,
Basketball) and integrated many general and specific learning outcomes from the Alberta education
program of studies as required in physical education. She often helped her colleagues by covering a
class in the case of an emergency and spent countless hours volunteering her time as head coach of our
Rep Boys Volleyball team, helping organize and run many major activities at Fairbairn (Falcon’s and
LSAA Cross Country Meets, Flock Festival Volleyball Tournament, Remembrance Day ceremony,
supervising basketball score keepers, etc.).
As an up-and-coming educator Jordyn has what it takes to run a fun/effective classroom. Jordyn’s
attention to detail and planning ability shows reflective thought and creativity. It is evident that Jordyn
likes to teach. She can connect with her students on a personal level and develop lasting relationships as
she is fair, firm, and consistent in her delivery of curriculum and classroom expectations. Jordyn dealt
with the very few issues in her classroom in an effective manner and used a wide variety of discipline
techniques when dealing with students (IE: talking with the students one on one, phoning home and
informing parents of inappropriate behavior, and bringing administration in, when necessary, etc.).
Classroom expectations were clearly laid out and the appropriate consequences were employed when
necessary.
As previously stated, Jordyn is reflective in her teaching and is committed to learning as she often
asked questions about her lessons with the intent to improve her craft. She observed other teachers
during her practicum and took part in many university, school, and district PD sessions. Her easy-going
nature, sense of humor and caring attitude has endeared her to the staff and students and will serve her
well as she begins her teaching career.
Overall, Jordyn has a very good idea what it takes to be an effective educator. She is committed to
“life-long learning” and will continue to improve as she gains knowledge and experience.
