Video Analysis: Retraction of Dr.

Jose Rizal

The video is all about the retraction letter of Dr. Jose Rizal. It was analyzed by
Xiao Chua, a news reporter of a television program called "PTV News." Dr. Jose Rizal,
Josephine Bracken, Fr. Vicente Balaguer, Federico Moreno, Fr. March, Fr. Vilaclara, Fr.
Fresno and Fr. Maure and the Guard. The video talks about the legitimacy of Rizal's
retraction paper. Wherein, Xiao Chua evaluates both claims of legitimacy, whether it's
true or not. He analyzed the evidence presented. Most importantly, he focused on the
eye witnesses' point of view. He also presented the new supporting documents that
somehow may have given enlightenment on the issue. It was the OIC of NHCP, Rene
R. Escalante, who published the study entitled "Re-examining the Last 24-hours of Rizal
using Spy Reports." The study examines the last day of Rizal, in detail. Because of
Rizal's Retraction controversy, a lot of people are doubting the contributions of Rizal;
some are questioning his status as a "National Hero," and, more importantly, his works
that are being used in schools for educational purposes. But Xiao Chua emphasized
that Dr. Jose Rizal's retraction maybe just a forgery or indeed legit, but it will not change
the way we view Rizal and the things and contributions he has made for the country.
Lastly, if Rizal's retraction was really true, this historical event tells us that, in the end,
Rizal was just a human and he chose to do it because of his personal reasons and most
importantly, to die as a Christian.

2. Video Analysis: First Mass in the Philippines

The Site of the First Mass in the Philippines is the topic being discussed in the
video of Knowledge Power TV. Raja Kulambo, Ferdinad Magellan, Antonio Pigafetta,
Raja Siagu, natives of Limasawa, Fr. Pedro De Valderrana, Sonia Zaide and Francisco
Albo were the people involved in the topic. The first mass in the Philippines happened on
March 31, 1521 (Easter Sunday) and was held in Limasawa, Leyte. The debate arose
when historian Sonia Zaide identified Masao in Butuan as the location of the first mass in
the Philippines. Both arguments used the documents of Antonio Pigafetta and Francisco
Alba. Finally, in 2020, the NHCP officially proclaimed that the First Mass in the Philippines
was held at Limasawa, Leyte on March 31, 1521, not in Masao, Butuan. It was proclaimed
after rigorous studies based on the 2 primary sources mentioned above. At the moment,
86% of the population in the Philippines is Christian, and knowing where the first mass in
the Philippines was held allows Filipinos to know the exact location of Christianity's origin.
Today, it is celebrated on the 31st of March every year to commemorate the First Holy
Mass in the Philippines.
