MODULE NUMBER :4 STUDENT NAME : BETHEL LOVE C. SAGGE
Activity 1 Answer the following
1. Are you convinced that the first Mass in the Philippines was held in Limasawa? Justify your answer. The first Catholic mass to be held in the Philippines, the Easter Sunday Mass of 1521, was held on Limasawa Island in Southern Leyte, according to research supported by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP). The Magellan-Elcano expedition's narratives by Italian chronicler Antonio Pigafetta were scrutinized by the NHCP panel in both their Italian and French versions revealed that Limasawa is closer to the location of the 1521 Easter Sunday Mass. The historians Trinidad Pardo de Tavera and Pablo Pastells, SJ, published journal papers in 1895 that examined Pigafetta's reports and stressed Limasawa as the location of the nation's first Catholic mass. These writings were studied by the national historical commission. The NHCP discovered that Limasawa is the location of the first Catholic mass in the nation based on the findings of the 1971 expedition of naval historian Samuel Eliot Morison and Colombian historian Mauricio Obregon as well as the accounts of Spanish naval engineer Ignacio Fernandez Vial and merchant marine captain Jose Luis Ugarte. These expeditions retraced the Magellan-Elcano voyage. Fr. celebrated the first Catholic liturgy in the nation. On March 31, 1521, Pedro Valderrama was sent by Portuguese adventurer Ferdinand Magellan. Roman Catholicism was introduced to the nation at the Limasawa Mass, and it has since grown to become the majority religion in the nation. 1. Give your reaction to the following statement of Izquierdo mentioned in his report on the Cavite Mutiny: "The Indios were possessed with the natural tendency of stealing." I didn't appreciate that he seemed to be generalizing about the entire Filipino population. Despite sharing the same nationality, religion, or other characteristics, every person on the planet is different in a variety of ways. He said that there are good people and bad people, and I interpret it to mean that we are the latter. They were the ones who were actually stealing, too. They oppressed our people, stole their freedom, invaded our country, claimed it as their own, looked down on us, etc. Knowing he stated this made me feel uncomfortable. 2. Analyze the three documents on the retraction of Dr. Jose Rizal. Do you believe he retracted? Defend your answer. No, The reason Dr. Rizal did not retract is that one of the conditions he allegedly agreed to when signing the document was to marry Josephine Bracken. The Catholic Church claims that they were married the day before Rizal was executed, but there is no documentation, such as a marriage license, to support this claim. 4. There are too many versions on the date and site of Bonifacio's "Cry." Which of these are you strongly convinced as the actual date and site? Why? Defend your answer presenting primary reliable sources. 5. Which is more important, the accuracy of the dates and sites or the significance of the event? Why? Dates are significant because they indicate when specific events occurred. Due of the chronological nature of history, this is very significant. To investigate the relationship between events, it is helpful to know that one event occurred before another. Dates are another way that history is marked by time.
Activity 2 Essay Writing (pick at least 2)
What is your stand in the following issues: 1. First President of the Philippines: Bonifacio or Aguinaldo? The Philippines did not yet had a president when the uprising began in 1896. Andres was the Katipunan Supremo, and Manila served as his administrative hub. One of the military members of the faction in the province of Cavite, south of Manila, was Don Emilio. Losses for the rebels occurred in Manila (where Spanish forces are very well) while victories for the rebels over the Spanish occurred in Cavite. Andres criticized a rebel assembly that took place in Cavite. After a court martial, he was put to death. Don Emilio was chosen as the next president as a result of subsequent actions. In charge of the 1897- founded Army is Emilio Aguinaldo. 2. The EDSA People Power: Revolution or Not? 3. Ninoy Aquino: Hero or Not? The late Ninoy Aquino was not a hero; at best, he was another opportunistic politician who entered politics in order to advance his own agenda at all costs. He is a typical propagandist who spent his tenure as an elected public figure utilizing the "I'm the good guy and he's the bad guy" card to make himself appear good and his political opponents look terrible. Ninoy Aquino served in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, although he failed to get a single bill or law passed during that period. "Ninoy Aquino Day, a national holiday marked annually on August 21 in the Philippines to remember the death of former senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. 4.
