Jean Watson's nursing theory defines the profession as promoting health, preventing illness, caring for the sick, and restoring health. To provide effective care, a nurse must be patient, empathetic, and able to see things from others' perspectives. The author argues that passion is the most essential trait for providing nursing care, as it will be difficult to handle every situation without it. They must also use mental capacity and empathy to understand patients' perspectives, even when treated improperly or faced with different views. To fulfill their duties, nurses must balance mind and heart to control each situation, though it is challenging to always tolerate injustice or go against one's own views - it is made easier by having passion, empathy, and a perspective-taking

Jean Watson's theory defines nursing as a way of promoting health, preventing
illness, caring for the sick, and restoring health. To be able to provide efficient nursing care, a nurse must be patient, empathetic, and a perspective-taker. A nurse whose passion is to provide care, because if not, it will be hard to handle and react to every situation in the hospital or in an unexpected situation The most essential trait that I must have in order to provide nursing care and service efficiently is being passionate. Nursing knowledge is not the only knowledge I should carry as I handle every patient, but I must also involve my mental capacity. I must say that tolerating everything is not easy, especially if I am treated improperly and disrespected, but I am no saint and it's already embedded in my mind that it is part of our profession. We are placed here as we are the ones who are more knowledgeable about how to handle it. On the other hand, showing empathy involves my heart. I love understanding people's perspective as it touches my heart. It also allows me to evaluate how they think, so I can give a response that is suited to their point of view. So, if I were to ask if I am strong enough to tolerate everything and soft enough to understand anyone, as a future nurse, my answer would be yes. Not just because it is needed in this field, but because it is the character I developed as I interact with different people and the when I decided to pursue this profession.
For me to be able to fulfill my duties and responsibilities, I must learn to balance
my mind and heart as everything must be controlled in this job. It's not easy to always tolerate everything, especially if it is unjust, and also to understand anyone, especially if it is against your own perception and unethical. But I think it will be easier if I do it with my passion, empathy, and perspective-taker personality.
