Manuel Luz. He met Segunda in Trozo (Tondo) Manila, when he visited his grandmother
together
with a friend MARIANO KATIGBAK. He came to know Segunda more intimately during his
weekly visits to La Concordi College where sister Olympia was a boarding student. Olympia was
a close friend of Segunda. And it was apparent that they feel in love with each other. It was “a
love at first sight”. It was hopeless since the very beginning because Segunda was already
engaged to be married to her town mate, Manuel Luz. Last time they talked to each other was
one Thursday in December, 1877, when Christmas vacation was about to begin.
