 My Health Care Experience
One of my health care experiences is when I volunteered at a retirement home during
my high school years. Volunteering there gave me an idea that I wanted to work and help
residents, especially with the elder community who are still living their remaining years of
their lives, whether it involves physical, mental, spiritual, and social support. This experience
has impacted me to pursue of going to health care field because of the following reasons: To
make positive impact to my residents with their everyday lives to make them feel healthy,
comfortable, and happy. Lastly, to develop my knowledge professionally.

First, sharing positive out look with the routine that make them feel relieve from
boredom, and depression from being away home, from there love once. For instance, when one
of the residents feels lonely due to the recent passing of the husband. What I did is to give her
comfort and providing activities like puzzles, bingo, and physical activities. It enhances their
memory and gain physical strength. This proves that by doing this work I feel the passion,
love, and interest to be part of the health care system. Therefore, performing this task to
residents helps me to visualize of what it looks like to go in the hospital setting or in a long-
term facility.

Second, able to think critically and be confident. It enhanced my ability in problem

solving with multi-tasks. There is a scenario wherein one resident that passed out in the main
floor and I was the only person present. I immediately call the supervisor for help. Then the
supervisor called the nurse for assessment. My prompt action saves the life of that person. The
experienced that I have encountered help me overcome my fear with no hesitation.

Lastly, I enhanced my knowledge professionally. My experience did help me gain

strategies for effective communication and proper protocols. These skills did affect me to
become stronger person and to remain calm in times of emergencies.

Overall, health care profession is an excellent career to become a competitive person.
