How do purpose/goal, audience, role, and topic influence the production and consumption
of text?

The purpose you are writing your paper is to fulfill its objective. The objectives are to
convince, inform, instruct, analyze, review, etc. The objectives of an author may be to enlighten,
to entertain, or to persuade. Persuasion occurs when you are attempting to persuade your
audience to agree with you or take some action. An aim to inform indicates that you want to
inform and instruct your audience. Readers are the target audience for your text. Understanding
your audience's demands before writing your paper will allow you to customize your writing to
that audience as they won't have you available to address questions about what you write. A
writer must analyze his society and his surroundings, reflect on them, and interpret them. She/he
must also serve as an inspiration, a mentor, and a challenge. Understanding your audience will
help you decide what information to include, how to deliver that information, and what kinds of
supporting details will be required for the reader to comprehend what you are providing.
