I. DESIGN BASIS REPORT

near jeypore Airstrip in Koraput District.
2. ARRANGEMENT

The following points are considered for design.

➢ The live load bending moment and shear forces have been obtained by taking the load
coming on one side wheels of the rear axle of the ATR-72 air craft.
➢ The live load on the wheel has been taken as point load acting on the one meter width of
the culvert.
➢ The impact factor of 1.5 has been considered for the live load from the paper “Analysis of
Box Culvert for Storm Water Drainage System for Runway under Aircraft Loading
at Airport” published in “International Research Journal of Engineering and
Technology (IRJET)”.
➢ SBC of 20 T/m2 has been taken into consideration which will be ensured by requisite soil
improvement technique followed by plate load test.
➢ The analysis of the culvert has been done per meter width and the design has been done as
per the load combination in the IRC-6:2014 Annex B Limit state design.
➢ STADD PRO software has been used to model the culvert as a frame of one meter width.
The moment and shear force due to the self weight, earth load, active earth pressure and
Live load (ATR-72 aircraft) has been obtained by using STADD PRO Software.
➢ The box culvert has also been designed for verification of strength under ultimate limit
state condition as per the partial safety factor in Table3.2 of IRC-6:2014 for basic
combination. The same structural components are also checked for serviceability limit state
as per the partial safety factor in the Table 3.3 of IRC-6:2014 for rare combination & Quasi-
permanent combination.
➢ The stress in the concrete and steel has been checked under rare combination & the crack
width in the concrete has been checked under Quasi-permanent combination.
➢ The depth of each member of culvert and the amount of reinforcement as well as its
arrangement has been provided satisfying the requirement of both the ultimate limit state
and serviceability limit state condition.
