Successful Re-accreditation of CoEd

By Alexei Bianca Contreras and Brix Nucum

The Office of the Student Affairs and Services spearheaded the re-accreditation of the minor
organizations from the College of Education last September 02-03, 2022. An online interview
was conducted with all eight (8) minor organizations officers in preparation for their upcoming
term, and it was facilitated by a representative from the Supreme Student Council of the
University.
The newly elected officers showcased their dedication and accepted their duties and
responsibilities for the academic year 2022-2023, regardless of the new normal set-up.
According to Dr. Arnello Sanchez Valerio, the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS)
Director, “During the accreditation or re-accreditation of the minor organizations of the COED,
no problem was reported.” Also, the event was successful for him because there were no
internet connection problem and technical difficulties throughout the process.
Ms. Christina Alexandra Calderon, the newly elected auditor of the Supreme Student Council
(SSC), stated, “I've come across all forms of student leaders, and words cannot accurately
describe how impressed I am with their leadership style. I've also witnessed some of the
remarkable relationships amongst the organizations' leaders. In general, it was a wonderful
experience.”
According to Dr. Valerio, “The main purpose of accreditation and re-accreditation of student
organizations is to ensure that all student organizations are to operate appropriately for the
welfare of their members.” “It enlightens a path for those students who have this talent of
dedication to LEAD to an organization. Re-accrediting perhaps is also a way to fill out more of
the voids that needed by the organizations in order to function as one”. Ms. Calderon added,
“re-accreditation is primarily done in order for student organizations to continue addressing the
needs of the entire university. Additionally, establishing student organizations encourages
members of the organization connect more closely and socialize with one another.”

In accordance with Dr. Valerio’s statement, “The SSC and the OSAS receive and evaluate the
documents of the student organizations for accreditation or re-accreditation.” Re- accreditation
is about assessing and evaluating to have a basis whether these sets of newly elected officers
are capable of what the minor organizations are aiming for.

Based on what Ms. Calderon stated, “any student organization requesting re-accreditation must
provide the prerequisites prior to the interview, which will be facilitated by the chosen Supreme
Student Council member. These parameters reflect their effectiveness as an organization during
the preceding academic year.” Therefore, newly elected officers of minor organizations who look
forward to being re-accredited must comply with all the requirements and expectations needed
by the facilitators. Aiming for the progression of these minor organizations is a good start for
every new set of officers.

An activity like this re-accreditation in Pampanga State Agricultural University is usually done at
the start of the school year, according to Mr. Valerio and Ms. Calderon. A new beginning needs
a new chapter, and it also needs a new character to continue the journey of these minor
organizations.
According to Dr. Valerio, “Student organizations need to be accredited or reaccredited to be able
to operate. Being accredited implies being allowed to plan and conduct activities, being
accepted, and being part of the pool of student organizations.” It serves as the beginning of
creating new platforms so students will be engaged to participate in such activities.

In addition, Ms. Calderon stated that the purpose of conducting re-accreditation was to ensure
that student organizations can continue to serve the interests of the whole institution and its
members. Because of this, newly elected officers would have the authority to lead and step up
with the new opportunity they have attained. She also mentioned how aspiring, ethical
pioneering, and great the newly elected officers of these minor organizations as she added, “My
top 3 minor organizations, in no particular order, are 3G, KaMakaTa, and CELES."
