Integrity in Nursing

Integrity can be defined as the property of being honest and possessing zealous moral

principles, which can also be described as moral uprightness, and the condition of being

complete and entire. These definitions are clearly germane to the realm of nursing. In essence,

integrity demands that nurses conduct themselves in accordance with the values endorsed by

their profession (Nurse Together, 2020).

The presence of integrity in nurses connotes that they are honest with regard to their

intention. Thus, their actions remain unaltered regardless of whether they are alone or amongst

others, and they always act in the correct manner at all times. Evidently, the majority of the

nurses encounter ethical dilemmas in the course of their work, which invariably test their

integrity. Nevertheless, nurses take ethically correct decisions. Thus, integrity is one of the most

important feature of nursing, which nurses must possess. Indeed, it is indisputable that nursing is

a principled and patient-centered profession that adopts a high moral stance.

In these days of the COVID-19 pandemic, wherein integrity and honesty are on the wane,

nurses constitute the very personification of these attributes. Evidently, nearly every feature of

this pandemic is terrifying and baffling, such as the risk of falling seriously or fatally ill, and the

swift propagation of misleading or incorrect information. In fact, there are some individuals who

refuse to undergo isolation or use personal protective equipment, which is frequently donned by

nurses and other medical professionals. Since nurses are regarded as being well informed,

ethical, and honest, they are ideally situated to enable the public to safeguard themselves and

others from the spread of this disease.

As a nurse, I will be truthful, honest, and always ready to aid the needy without any

reservations, whatsoever. I have always believed in moral uprightness, which has become

integral to my character, and this is one of the core attributes of integrity.
