Introduction Time
 Ask students to sit at their desks and take out LA notebooks (begin to set
expectation that LA notebooks must be out at the start of every class).
 Introduce LO. Explain why we are focusing on this LO. (We want to be
able to research what we are reading to expand our understanding of the 3 min
book).
 Mention we want to finish our assignments / self-assessments from last
class first.
Body Time
Finish last 1) Remind students what we did yesterday and
assignment what they must do to finish. (Assignments will be
from yesterday handed in at front table). 10 min
2) Students will finish their assignments.

Read Aloud 1) Select 2 volunteers to grab books. Make sure

everyone has one (show of hands).
2) Read aloud to class, modelling good read aloud.
3) Be sure to point out predetermined literary
15 min
devices during reading.
4) Have students add characters / settings into their
bookmarks as they appear in the chapter.
Review Read 1) Have discussion about the chapter that was just
Aloud read. “What did we think of this chapter? Any 2 min
responses?”
Introduce 1) “So, we have finished discussing what houses we
Activity believe we would belong to. What I have done
now is taken on the role of the sorting hat and
split you all into houses myself!”
2) Your goal now is to team up with the other
members of your house to research each house
on your computers. For every fact you can find
and write down about your house on big paper,
you will be awarded house points (like the points 5 min
they are awarded in the book). Extra house points
will be awarded for drawing your house logo.
3) Students may research on their own if they
prefer, but they must contribute their findings to
the poster.
4) I do: Demonstrate research method on smart
board with Harry Potter wiki.
