ACTIVITY

MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY

1. Find the mean, median, and mode of the following sets of data:
a. 25, 26, 34, 98, 45, 25, 86
MEAN:

The student average

X= 25+26+34+98+45+25+86
7 score on this quiz is 48.43
X= 339 = 48.43
7
MODE:
25,25,26,34,45,86,98
Mode

Therefore, the Mode is 25, which indicate that this is UNIMODAL

MEDIAN:
25,25,26,34,45,86,98
The median of this distribution is 34

b. 54, 65, 35, 12, 84, 21, 65, 65, 20, 54, 84, 89, 12, 54
MEAN:

X= 54+65+35+12+84+21+65+65+20+54+84+89+12+54
14
X= 714 = 51
14 The student average
score on this quiz is 51

MODE:
12,12,20,21,35,54,54,54,65,65,65,84,84,89
Observed that there are two in 12, two in 84 and three 54, three 65,
though 12 and 84 are occurred more than once, there are more in 54 & 65,
since these values are most occurring in this distribution, Therefore, the
Mode is 54 & 65, which indicate that this is BIMODAL distribution.

MEDIAN:
12,12,20,21,35,54,54,54,65,65,65,84,84,89

54+54 = 108 = 54
2 2
The median of this distribution is 54

2. Compute the GWA of a student with the following grades:

Subject Weight Grade
A 6 2.5
B 3 3.0
C 1 1.1
D 2 1.9
E 5 3.1

SOLUTION:
weighted mean = (2.5 X 6) + (3.0 X 3) +(1.1 X 1) + (1.9 X 2) + (3.1 X 5)
6+3+1+2+5

= 15.0 + 9.0 + 1.1 + 3.8 + 15.5

17
The General Weighted Average (GWA) of
the student is 2.61
= 44.4 = 2.61
