Marma

Marma is the second largest ethnic group of people in Bangladesh. They have different culture,
language and living place.

Living place: There hill districts of Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari, coastal districts of Cox’s
Bazar and Patuakhali.

Dress code: Thami, Angi

Family structure: Family structure of marma is nuclear family. Husband is the head of the household,
the wife also has a significant roel in the family.

Main occupation: Agriculture is the main occupation of the Marmas but Jhum cultivation is theri
primary agricultural pursuit. They also supplement their food requirement by gathering tree leaves,,
roots and tubers from the hill forests.

Language: The Mandi language is called Achichik Katha. It does not have any written alphabet.

Religion: Mandis follow their own religion, Sangshareq which has roots in agriculture.

SANTAL

Living place: Santals are largely seen in the northern districts of Dinajpur, Naogaon, Thakurgaon,
Panchagar etc.

Festival: Nobanno

Characteristics: By nature, They are very peach loving, hones, industrious and trustworthy people.

Language: They have own language-santal language.
