The City of Johannesburg’s Transport Department appointed the JDA to implement a new

The facility features 37 holding bays, 42 loading bays, ten wash bays, private car parking, 22
trader stalls, ablution facilities (male, female and disabled), and a public square for traders,
including a sitting area.

The Drieziek public transport facility will provide local communities who primarily depend on
public transport to places of work, education, and many public amenities, mainly in the Orange
Farm and Stretford area, from this facility.

Located at the corner of Milife Street, the facility is innovative, dense, and has an easy-to-use
public transport infrastructure that is functional, sustainable, and durable.

The facility will also stimulate the local economy through employment opportunities through
trading stalls. The JDA ensured that the traders’ stalls accommodated informal traders selling
wet and dry goods.

The square and stalls were integrated through paved and covered walkways, creating a
seamless unobstructed pedestrian flow. Access from the surrounding areas will be possible
on clearly marked crossings.

The JDA’s Executive Manager: Project Implementation, Siyabonga Genu, said, “The JDA’s
implementation of the Drieziek public transport facility also serves as another example of how
infrastructure projects can bring enormous change to the local economy and stimulate
economic growth”.

In the project, 11 SMMEs to a value of R8,5 million and 37 Labourers with a total appointment
value exceeding R2 million.
