RATIONALE and CONNECTION TO MARZANO’S TOP NINE:

I selected this strategy because my students who are on the Autism spectrum could use some
practice identifying, recognizing, and responding to other people’s emotions.

This connects to the Marzano’s top nine category “Homework and practice”

PA COMMON CORE STANDARDS and/or IEP GOAL:

Standard - 16.1.PK.A1

Distinguish between emotions and identify socially accepted ways to express them.

STEP-BY-STEP EXPLICIT DIRECTIONS PROVIDED TO STUDENT(S):

1. I will make a face and then have the student guess what emotion I am showing.

2. I will do this for all five emotions.

3. After he has guessed for me, I will ask him to make faces and I will try to guess what
emotions he is showing.

4. I will have him do this for several emotions.
